Hi. I don't know if this is the right place to ask...but I'm not sure where else to put this.

I'm interested in having the Ares sounds as MP3's on my computer, but I'm not quite sure how to go about getting them there. I don't know how to directly extract the sounds from the game using either Hera or ResEdit (if that's even possible), WireTap through OSX *horribly* distorts the sounds, and finally there IS one plug-in in the Ares add-on files page, but I have no idea what program I need to open it.

Would anyone be willing to lend a hand if they know something about this. :P

Click on this link and download the free Stuffit Expander and install it. Then click on this link and then this link to download the stuffed mp3 files of the music. Unstuff the .sit files with Stuffit. After you do that, all you need is iTunes or some other mp3 player to open the mp3 files.

I miss playing Ares. It was such an excellent game. I already have all the music in my library. Quite an excellent collection I must say.

As for your question, Pufer got you covered. I'm just happy to see a topic about Ares around here.

I particularly like how much richer and more subtle the mp3s are when played through a good sound system, as compared to how "video-gamey" they sounded while playing the video-game. I just put on Yesterday (The Doodly-Do Song), and the texture of the music is amazing.

Ah yes, the "Doodly-do" song - I find myself humming that sometimes!

I'm working on getting Ares to run on an OS9 emulator on my Intel PB, er MBP.
Meanwhile, still playing it on my old PB
Still one of my favourite games.
Oh, so it is another bug hunt then...

I have it working on a couple of my computers. On my eMac G4, Basilisk II (V19b) works very well with only a few small glitches here and there. Ares is quite playable. It's running under System 7.5.5. I'm using the same disk image on my MBP. Only thing is, I'm playing under my Windows XP partition. Sad, I know, but Basilisk II works really well on windows. For some reason though, the Mac version does not work for me. I think it's a problem with my graphics card, but I'm not sure. My brother managed to get it working on his MacBook without a problem.

System 7.5.5 - Aaarggh! That was one of the buggiest releases ever by Apple. Still, I must try it using Basilisk (I got Ares to work with Sheepshaver, but it's a bit slow and I can't get the sound to work).

I've had no problems with it. You can also use 7.5.3, which I used a while before upgrading to 7.5.5.

I recently got my hands on a copy of OS 8, so I'll be messing around with that later.
