Greetings, Professor Falken...

...would you like to play a game? How about Global Thermonuclear War? Currently being played in the DEFCON forum right now, GTW is a real-time forum strategy game where you have to find which of the players want the complete and total destruction of the free and civilized world... before those players find you, and your country vanishes in a rain of nuclear fire. Add to the mix intelligence agents, people with special abilities, and hosts who may/may not be evil, and you've got a strategy game that will keep you busy for quite some time...

-------

Basically GTW is a variant on that old game 'Mafia': The host appoints two of the players to be the Evil Dictators. The host may also give special roles to other people, such as Intelligence Agent (IA). In each round, everybody votes on who they think most likely to be one of the bad guys. The person getting the most votes is eliminated. Then, the nasties get their shot, removing one person (basically, whoever they wish.) Will the champions of the free world save the day, or will they be utterly destroyed by the bad guys?

It's lots of fun, especially as you're trying to figure out who the bad guys are-- that said, once you've done that, getting other people to vote for the same person can be easy as walking, or as difficult as herding cats. Sound interesting? Why not try it!

-------

Currently, Game 16 is in progress, but once it's over, you can join the sign-up for Game 17.

P.S: If you already know about Global Thermonuclear War, but haven't tried it, why not give it a whirl?

P.P.S: You do not need to have the game DEFCON to be able to play.

No cross-forumsection advertising. It throws off the carefully balanced ASW forum server, which rests on the head of a vertical pin, sideways.

I am disappointed. I hoped this was about Saw.

In which case, my response was going to be "you should have posted this when the first one came out. 4 ####ING YEARS AGO"

I too am disappointed. I hoped this was about straw.

In which case I would have pointed out its effectiveness as an excellent bedding product for livestock.

The game being advertised has long since ended. I was killed by mrxak's machine thinggy. I learned that mrxak is not to be capitalized at the beginning of a sentence. In the new game, I was too late to sign up, but mrxak named the executioner Buffalo the Kid.

I'll actually be hosting the next game. I plan to open the signup when the current game gets down to somewhere around five players. I also plan on running it like a classic game instead of a newer/experimental style. The more players the better.

Can you give us a warning prior to the signup? I'm not sure I can be stuffed checking the DEFCON board every day... ^_^
