My point exactly.

Mimi's Café has an amazing french onion soup. Probably 800 calories per cup. But it's good :P

I love tomatoe with a grilled cheese sandwich. Yummy!

Goulash is a soup?

My standard at home lunch is a bowl of tomato and a quesadilla.

Goulash is like no kind of soup I've ever known. There are goulashes that might fall under the category of stews, but this is not the week of stews!

Sure, I think we can include chowders and stews.

And besides, it's a soup, not a stew!

That was before I declared it the week of soups. No stews allowed!

Okay, so this stew I got was pretty darn good. Campbell's Chunky Sirloin Burger with Country Vegetables. Pretty thick, like any good stew. Lots of stuff in it, including lots and lots of steak. I could have done without quite so many peas and carrots, and sub in more potatos and green beans. I think I would get this stew again.

Yesterday I got a lot of new soups and stews for soup week, so you can expect lots of reviews to come.

As far as stews go, it doesn't get any better than this:

Okay, I got some hot and sour soup from a local chinese restaurant I get take-out from from time to time. I haven't tried it yet from there, but I was not disappointed. It was very good soup. Quite hot and quite sour. Beautiful soup, really. Will have again.

Okay, tried another stew from Campbell's Chunky line, Chicken & Dumplings. Very thick and creamy. Everything was just covered with the thick liquid so it was hard to tell what everything was, but it was very good. There actually seemed to be some dark meat in there, giving it a little more flavor when you came across some. The spaetzle dumplings were quite good too. I think this will be my main stew in the future.

As to canned soup, I'm okay with Campbell's Select Three Cheese Mushroom Ravioli with Vegetables Soup. Chunky New England Clam Chowder is alright as well and you could do worse than Progresso Minestrone. However, why screw around with canned soup when there are so many decent asian restaurants around?

My favorite is homemade gumbo with shrimp and alligator. If you ever get the chance to try any gumbo containing alligator don't pass it up.
The other three things worth making a gumbo with ( shrimp + any one of the following ) are venison, dove, and squirrel.

What does alligator taste like? Chicken?

Alligator does not taste like chicken, it's taste is unique and hard to describe, but very good. The only way to know how it tastes is to try it yourself.

Crab is good. Never had alligator. Wouldn't mind trying swordfish.

Hey! Maybe Vell-os was implying that moonunit was eating too much pufferfish!

I've always wanted to try this, while we're on the topic of linking to people's profiles.

That one's overlinked. Try the other one.

Oh, how could that ever get old?

Incidentally, I have no idea if the latter is connected with the other three.

I asked. He isn't.

Except it makes too much sense to say that he is.
