We grow so cynical the older we get. It pisses me off.

Or we realise that we live in a time period when people are rather more accepting then they were previously.

Oh yes.. you are right about that.

But that in itself can bring about cynicism. Some things shouldn't be as acceptable. Although, I disagree with myself with the points you brought up. Race, Sex, etc.

Well it kinda depends what it is. After the initial shock, thinking about the place and time Babar was written, France between the Wars, the views expressed in it made a bit more historical sense, but it was still rather weird.

At least we're safe with Dr. Seuss. I seriously doubt any of his works fall short of genius.

Of course. And his books that take a political stance, which some do, are against McCarthyism, and Anti-war. :P

I'm kinda scared to reread them after a recent episode invovling me reading Babar to a bunch of pre-school kids. I got about half-way through the book when I realised what an incredibly racist, sexist, neo-colonialist story it was. So know I approach all children's books with some hestitation that I'll realise they're not as good as I remember them being.

Is this a good time to mention that a relative of mine drew the original drawings for Babar?

Actually that's kinda cool, and it lets me mention that a distant relative of mine did the drawings for Sherlock Holmes.

The time really had little to do with it, Francocentric (neo-)colonialism was an underlying theme of quite a lot of French work from the 17th Century through the nostalgia of the 1950's.

I have plenty of relatives who should be and might end up being famous. But many more who shouldn't be and never will be. Myself included.

It's mainly pork...

Mainly.

Either way, it's not kosher folks!

Learned that the hard way.

Other ingredients include: salt, water, sugar, and sodium nitrite. Mmmmm....Spam.

Why do you "have" to take Chem, µ? Both Biology and Geology are vastly superior sciences.

I have to take Chem because it's required for my major. As is Biology. But at the heart of it all I enjoy it. I just like to complain. My problme is that I'm not exceptionally gifted. I actually have to work.

I have to take Chem next year as part of my Mechanical Engineering major. Bio is not required. I took AP Bio last year (high school), so if I get the college credit it will be an elective. I loved AP Bio though. It was my favorite class of senior year. Good times.
