Just wondering if anyone else on this 'ere forum has picked up a Nintendo Wii (Please do the world a service by pronouncing Wii as either "Why" or "Revolution") and would like to exchange Friend Codes.
Well if you want my one send yours to me in a pm... actually I'm not around much, try an email.

I have it. TBH I'm not convinced that the Wii Remote does anything special for it. Its great for Wii Sports and Wii Play though.

I think that about sums it up.

Except I would want the classic and Cube controllers, for lack of any older Nintendo systems of my own.

Referring to the Wii as the Revolution is a surefire way to make yourself look like an idiot.

What does this exchanging of friend codes do for someone?

Makes them a contact, you can exchange messages, pictures and Mii characters.
It will probably also allow for a greater depth of internet play (when some internet play games are released) than is available normally (like on the DS, specifically in Metroid) or it could be necessary to allow internet play (like on the DS, specifically in Animal Crossing).

It's quite a clunky system, exchanging 16 digit codes and so on, but Nintendo think their audience is about 6.

Yeah, I'm getting pretty sick of the people saying "I got the nintendo wee!"

I always think "Is that what you say or do when you play it?"

It's not called the Revolution. Get over it.

It's not pronounced "why". It's pronounced "wee". Get over it.

Sure, Wii looks and sounds a little ridiculous at first. But stop living in seven months ago and get on with your life.

Why accept a substandard name? The nunchuk is so called because the nick name caught on because people used it at E3 and it stuck.

Wee is a terrible name in English. It just is. It encourages people to think of the Wii as a stupid console for children, a designation the Gamecube never recovered from.
Personally I really want to see this console succeed, and anglicizing the name is a good first step to seeing it accepted as a console for gamers.
Saying its name as "Why" is a very effective way of, it even conforms to some of those back of the mind English pronunciation rules (if there are two vowels you say the name of the second one).

Unlike, of course, the mature and professional Playstation and Xbox.

I disagree. Changing Pokemon to Pocket Monsters would have been a terrible idea.

Perhaps your views on what customers want and don't want have more to do with your myopic perception of the possibilities of video games and your inability to accept change than it does with the actual sales figures.

So I say once again, get over it.

Well, there are a bunch of younger children that use Nintendo products.

Well, Nintendo is a Japanese company, so their names don't always follow English pronunciation rules. (then again, I don't remember them having a "wi" sound in their modern alphabet either)

Well why don't those little bastards just play off-line then. But seriously, I know a ten-year old who plays battlefield and seems to deal with all the players and their relatively free speech perfectly. And he chats away with the rest of the clan (himself and his father are clan members) without the need for anyone to input a 16 digit code into anything.
He is ridiculously good at BF2 to boot. Tomcat, Ankhwatcher.

I hereby retract any and all scathing comments I have made concerning the Nintendo Wii. I played one in the Gamestop at the local mall on Friday (Zelda Twilight Princess) and it ROCKS. ... then again I haven't played the PS3 so I can't vouch for that and no one's debating the supremacy of the XBox 360, so we all know where the Wii stands, but it's not too bad.

I am now in defense of the aforementioned Wii.

The first thing I thought of when I saw it was: is that one of those CD drives? I have a couple of Apple SCSI CD drives that look a lot like that...
