What does the pumpkin patch do?

I used to use it, but I got tired of it, as far as I know, it just changed the trees into orange ones, and something used to fall from them, if I remember correctly, leaves, maybe? Anyway, it also changed the "plant" into a pumpkin. I've heard this changes more things, is that true?

It also clapped pointy black hats onto the heads of all witches and flattened the music in that south-eastern town into a hideous dischord. It wasn't a hugely complex patch, just a simple Octobrification.
