Has anyone ever noticed that most old-style pubs and taverns have really cool carved wooden signs? I figured the Alraecian Tavern ought to have one too, so I am starting this topic as a competition to see who can make the best sign. I know the topic's subject implies you have to use Photoshop for your submission, but you can use any graphics software, or you could draw one and scan it in, or carve a real one and take a digital photo of it. (This is said because some people, like myself, don't have $400 to shell out for Photoshop. And I sincerely hope that no one actually goes to the trouble of carving one, though. Posted Image) So come on people, get cracking at those sign designs!

My submission will be coming later, when I get home and download the 30-day trial version of Photoshop.

Oh, and this would be as good a place as any to post pictures of your characters, if you have some.

This is a wonderful idea Big Joe, but my skills are defiantly not in the image section. Otherwise I would have helped, good luck to all the others who plan to try it out though!

Yeah, if I had any graphical talent whatsoever, you would've seen it by now. Posted Image

On the other hand, Moonshadow can draw, and I believe she promised us all a few drawings, as a matter of fact... Posted Image

I am the lucky of a copy of Photoshop 7, but I suffer the same problem as Avatara; Complete lack of artistical abilities. And it wouldn't turn out much better if I carved one. I'd probably just end up harming myself somehow.

Drawing and handling Photoshop is not the same. So there.
I'm not feeling very artistically inspired at the moment, and even if I were, my "skill" is not drawing any signs...

Well, what would the sign look like? I don't remember seeing a reference to a sign anywhere before, so I'm not sure what words/logos I should be drawing on it.

I know drawing and Photoshop-ing are not the same. That's another reason I said people could do either one. I personally am not very good at drawing, but I've gotten pretty good at doing stuff with Photoshop. Unfortunately, I'm not very good at simulating a wood texture yet, so I'm still working on it.

I imagine it would say the name of the Tavern, and maybe have a little picture on it that has something to do with the Tavern. I've been perusing the Tavern archives, and I noticed that there used to be (and maybe there still is) a magic frog who guarded the Tavern whenever Talos is away. I've been thinking about doing something with that. Or maybe it could be more of a coat-of-arms type of thing, displaying things that are important to the Tavern-owner or the patrons. If you do a Google image search for "pub sign", you might find some good ideas.

Not to be resurrecting an old topic, but it should be pointed out that the sign of the Alraecian tavern should be written in Cytherian, which would most likely (I think) be a Eteo-Cretan family language. (Although since Cythera is clearly a very developed civilization in its own right, there would, I assume, be a very specific Cytherian tongue. The isolation of its people would also help the development of a unique language.)

Give me six months or so, plus another two to type the works, and I could give you one. I might need some help with the vocabulary though... anyway, I dabble in minor linguistics. I know the ins and outs of basic language creation.

Big Joe: Magical Ghost Frog. Rogan stepped on him. He was originally just a big lock, but we know the skill of some Cytherian mages...especially while drunk.

Well, if you ask around, you can usually find someone who would be willing to upload it. If you emailed the pic to me, I could put it up myself.
