Hey, I'm not regularly on these boards, but I know a bit about Cythera.

I see that you're all a bit sad that there's no sequal to Cythera. Why doesn't someone just get a copy of the Coldstone engine (which is a bit like the Cytheran one) and make a sequal?

It wouldn't be that hard, surely...

There's another reason as well:

Coldstone sucks.

Even if it would be less buggy for Coldstone, I would like Cythera II to be delver-designed, as it would give you that feeling that it really was the sequel. Just my 2¢, though.

It would be good to have a sequel (wink wink nudge nudge to you Ambrosia staff) but if not, at least a big bad revamped version with fixes for the major bugs like the wine quest and the fishing.

While yes, it would be nice to have patch for Cythera, I doubt Ambrosia is going to put one out. They consider Cythera done work.

Its so sad, it seems we are destined the way of the dodo...
Any one here ever play Marathon or one of its sequels? It was made in '96 i believe by Bungie and resonably resently a new one came out making the 4rth in the series, the biggest in the entire series, almost double the size of the last and bigest one till then,...but get this, it was 3rd party, a game that refused to die. Cythera could do this too, get a whole revamping but it would be work... and we would need an editor that works and a following to make it better.

You mean Rubicon, I assume? There are a couple differences between Marathon's history and Cythera's:
1) Marathon is customizable; Cythera isn't.
2) Marathon was released as open source; Cythera wasn't. (meaning a customizable version is not an option)
3) Marathon left a lot for the character still to do; Cythera didn't. (meaning that a sequel would be written pretty much from scratch, and not really be "Cythera")

Actually, as gandreas pointed out in another thread, there are several loose ends left for a sequal, though the vast majority of ideas would have to be new.

Well, yes. My point was that the character is gone, and the character is one of Marathon's greatest mysteries.

Marathon had so many mysteries that it can keep going forever its only limitation being that the engine, even updated as it is, still is a patch over arcane 3D wannabe technology. My point was simply that if the same effort was put into cytheria an editor CUD be peiced together, i.e. Blizzards current fialure at stoping hack programs comes from the fact the someone sat there and fiddled with there encruptions and code till he got it open and ripped out the MPQ writing protocals. Blizzard certainly didnt make it open source, quite the opposite, so if such effort is put into cytheria, maybe we can at least make enough stir that Ambrosia might consider open sourcing cythera.

While I understant you're frustrated that a Cythera sequel or patch is unlikely, spamming and sending hate mail is not a solution. In fact, it'll, if nothing else, just make matters worse. On the other hand, sending a well thought out letter or e-mail might actually get something done.
