i got a fishing pole but i can't fish. it keeps saying to cast into deep water. has anyone figured it out? is there any thing else you can do that has nothing to do with the main part of the game?

As far as I know, I don't think anybody has been able to fish - its some kind of a bug.

Welcome to the boards!
It's not possible to fish, as there's no such thing as "deep water". On the magic map, the light blue is shore, the normal blue is normal water, so I assume that if there was any such thing as deep water in Cythera, it would be a darker blue. But there's no deep water, so there's no dark blue, and so you can't fish. It's a bummer, because it would be an easy way to get free food. Maybe that's why we can't fish -- the game designers thought it would make it too easy, so they took the fishing places out.

Well, you can get free food from the cook in Land King Hall anyway..so I doubt that's the reason. Chances are it's just a bug, something that Cythera has a lot of.
