It wreaks havoc on slower computers. (I got lucky, my browser crashed due to the flooding, something about out of memory)

That's a clear example of Javascript abuse. (No, your silly joke didn't 'get' me, I used the stop button and examined the page source.)

It is malicious and theoretically dangerous if it hard crashes someone. Take it down if you don't want to get sued. That's my advice.

Huh?

I live in New Zealand. And yes I know about that trick. There are many more examples of this on the web. Mine only has 414 or something (I counted).

How can I get sued?

Do you think you're the only person with an internet-connected computer in all New Zealand?
And they talk about Americans thinking that the U.S. is the only country in the world... Evedently at least one Kiwi thinks that America is the only country in the world too Posted Image

But seriously, just becuase the majority of your victims are American, aren't you afraid that eventualy someone from your own nation will stumble into your snare?

They have. And they had a good laugh. I read somewhere that Yahoo owns anything on their servers, so I do't care about legal stuff. Posted Image

Though justice will probobly never be served, it is still moraly wrong. And I am thus going to scour the Yahoo geocities terms of service to see if you are violating them in some way with this.

From the TOS:
"You understand that all information, data, text, software, music, sound, photographs, graphics, video, messages or other
materials ("Content"), whether publicly posted or privately transmitted, are the sole responsibility of the person from which such
Content originated. This means that you, and not Yahoo, are entirely responsible for all Content that you upload, post or
otherwise transmit via the Service."

Violations of the Geocities terms of service:

5(:P You cuased harm to Mr. Somebody, who is a minor. (I think...)

5(h) This is the ticket. Your 'joke' is '...computer code, files or programs designed to interrupt, destroy or limit the functionality of any computer software...'

There are probobly others if I look hard enough, but if you don't remove the link from your .sig (I say nothing about removing it from the web page, that is your own bussiness and it isn't hurting anyone just siting there.) I'll be happy to report those violations to Yahoo administration.

Erm, Bryce? This is a common kind of internet joke. It's really nothing to get worked up about. When you click a link that says, "DON'T CLICK", you expect something bad to happen. For example, when I clicked it, I was gleefully anticipating a war with pop-up windows, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was something more devious than that. For example, even though I could switch out of IE, I couldn't close the window which held the source. Nor, for example, could I beat the alert. I ended up force-quitting, because it was easier for me. However, anyone could simply click through the entire thing if they had wanted.

And on a nit-picking point, you could contest whether Mr. Somebody was "harmed".

it isn't my fault he clicked on the link. It quite clearly states "Don't click here".

I personally found the joke rather amusing. Bryce, you're getting WAY too worked up over this. It is, at worst, a minor annoyance.
