When you ask Apis of The Two Tailed Rat about Demodecus she says he never plays at her inn. Then he rants about how you should ask Bryaxis--Demodecus' best friend--why this is so. But Bryaxis never responds to anything related to the subject with a relevant answer. What is this? A red herring? An incomplte mission? What?!

I think it's just a pointer to the connection between Bryaxis and Demodocus. It's a reasonably important connection, and so it's got several pointers to it throughout the game.
