There are a number of resembalances between Cythera and the real world.

Cythera:
The Cytherians left their old island home, called 'Thera', becuase it was being destroied.

Real World: http://www.culture.g...a/e211ua08.html

Cythera:
There is a city named Pnyx.

Real World: http://www.culture.g...a/e211aa05.html
(Note - the picture of those stepped things looks familiar...)

Cythera:
Seems like a Greek culture.

Real World:
Both the above things are near or in Greece.

More strange 'coincedences' later, if I get around to it. I don't actualy have a copy of cythera installed, so I am drawing from other sources... such as the old Cythera website.

www.magnatune.com - Magnatune: Internet record label. Wide selection of music in MP3, flac, ogg: no DRM. Legal. Artists get 50% of your money.

[ to get things back on topic ]

There are many parts of Cythera derived from the "real world".

For example, the Kosha's main building is almost identical to the layout of one of the main buildings at the ruins of Pylos (from Bronze Age Greece). The pass words for the different halls in the library are based on some of the key words that were used to help decode Linear B.

The resemblance is pretty close, except the fountain is in the wrong place...
But over all, I'd say it's a reasonible copy.

That is a nifty comparison.
