Has anyone else noticed that the graphics from Cythera look a lot like those from an Ultima game? (I can't remember which)

Actually I thought that the graphics from Cythera looked like that of Avernum. Which was a great game by Spiderweb. But still I think that Cythera is just as good if not better. Yep definately better. And I like Cythera already. Though lately I haven't been able to play it . I hate the fact that I registered it and don't play it. But I recomend registering. It's great. And in fact I'm going to play it right this minute.

Just dropping by...
Yes, the Cythera graphics do look a lot like the Ultima Online graphics. At least the Ultima Online I played, I don't know what they've done with it now.

Definately reminds me of Ultima 7 (Black Gate and Serpent Isle). One of the best in that series in my opinion.
Anyhow the overhead perspective is the same and much of the interface/graphics are quite similar.
Ultima Online has a similar look but its perspective has been rotated 45 degrees.
There's a nice little web page with ultima 7 info and screen shots at http://jedyt.tripod.com/
Cythera has allowed me to re-live those hours of playing games like ultima on a friends PC but now I get to play it on my Mac natively! I hope there will be more games like cythera from Ambrosia in the future.

Very close.
The graphics are roughly somewhere between U6 and U7:
* Higher resolution than U6, about the same as U7
* Somewhat "simpler" than U7 in many places, with U6 style coloring, shading and outlining
* Everything is loosely locked to the same grid that U6 would have (which in Cythera is 32 pixels), as oppposed to U7 which is four times finer (though there is a "subgrid" of 8 pixels that objects can be aligned to).
* Everything is completely flat in Cythera, like U6, while U7 allowed object to have elevation (and buildings would have actual "stories" that you could climb between)
* The UI is much more like U7 (pretty much not at all like U6), but far less modal (you can leave containers/books/etc... open and still move about)
