Starting september 1st, (If METAL 2.0 is realesed on sceduale [sp?]), I will most probobly begin a period of intensive coding in preperation for the starting of a new project, an RPG engine. This is, of course, assuming that the speed gains they claim for METAL 2.0 come through.
Tenitive fetures of the RPG engine -
XYZ system, not just 2 dimensions (I forsee I will regret this descision in the future, but it's doubtfull I'll drop it.)
Lighting - as in Cythera, there will lights (Torches, glowey things on walls, skylights).
It is not known weather or not there will be moving light sources. (Torches, explosions). I have not figured out how I will do this yet. If I figure it out, then it will have moving light sources as well.
Clothes effect sprites -
I want the clothes/armor a charicter is wearing to effect their apearance.
I have decided to forsake (movement) annimation in favor of this, because my reaserch indicates RPG gamers don't care much about graphics anyway, and this is my personal prefrence. Charicters will still have Sitting, Standing relaxed, Standing at ready for Combat, and laying down poses. (So they can sit in chairs, lay in beds, ect.)
And no, you will not be able to remove the underwear form charicters of the oppisite sex.
Day and Night -
As in Cythera, day and night will have effects on lighting, as well as on the behavior of people. Seasons are also planned. (Days shorter in the winter, longer in the summer.)
Weather -
Both as a graphical effect and as a modifier to statistics, weather will be one of the keystones of my plan. It will effect charicter behavior as well, and possibly cahricter apppearacne. (People will don coats in the winter, and less people will wander about outdoors if it rains.) Weather will be tied to seasons, naturaly.
I am considering the possibliity of making those who do not pay their shareware fees be occasionaly be struck by lightning. Muahhahah.
Calender -
Rather than just an arbitrary date, the Calender will effect things. Certain days will be festivals. People will go do things on those days. If you want to be really in depth, the scenario deleoper could make it so there were wars, and territory changes. (Extra, Extra! Read all about it! Hamster army takes over Kosha!)
Epicosity -
If i plan to finish the actual game in my life, (as apart form the engine) the size of the inital scenerio will be limited to one town on a small island
Either that, or I'll need a really good editor. And a few scenario designers.
There is a bunch on other stuff I have not yet thought of. If you have any ideas to share, email me. evnova@hotpop.com
thanks.

Hehe, reminds me of Harvest Moon, sort of. They've got festivals every so often, but on regular dates, and it gets dark at night. It rains and snows, sometimes even earthquakes or hurricanes, and there's the four seasons.
Sounds pretty neat though, Bryce.
