Is there a maximum level limit? I can't seem to gain anymore levels with my dude, even though Idestroy hoards of Ruffians. Don't tell me to use the search function either, I didn't find squat.

The maximum values for moust counter type things in Cythera, like levels, is 255. It goes back to the C data type Glenn chose for them when coding the engine. Is your character's level that high?

Since the number of experience points required to gain a level doubles with each level-up, it quickly grows impractical to gain levels. If I remember my numbers correctly, it is very time consuming to get past level 9, and impossible to reach to reach level 12, due to game engine constraints. Ah, the joys of exponential growth.

heh, level 255 would take decades of dedicated gaming to complete then. What fun. Of course, then youd have the ultimate warrier hands down.

I guess that makes sense. Ambrosia should've made it so that experience needs to double to get to the next level. Oh, by the way, I beat the game about a year and a half ago, so I'm just new to the boards :P.

I think they did make it so the experience needs to double to get to the next level, hence the "exponential growth."

Now you know why they included an edit button (I find it to be a vital function of the board).

If you're really board with the game, and are seeing how powerful you can get, there's a program called Ace! that can edit your skill points, levels, and skills (although they disappear and change back whenever you hit something, so it's better to get the points and train in skills.). You can download it on my site (in my signature) or from a link on Slayer's site (in his signature).
Handy eh?

That means to reach level 13 you require 204800 experience. More than I would say is worth it.

I supposed two weeks isn't /that/ old, right? Well, I thought I'd clear this up.

The highest amount of exp that one can attain is 65535, or 2^16 - 1 I think. This means the highest level is 11. So, refering to the statement above, it would indeed not be worth the time to try and get to level 13 Posted Image.

I though the highest was 2^32.

The internal scripting system (which actually does all this sort of calculation) uses 24 bit signed integers (using the other bits to tell the difference between integers, different kinds of objects, pointers to strings, etc...). So 2^23-1 would have been the largest value that could be calculated.

However, the character storage record only kept 16 bits for experience, and so, in the end, 11 is the highest level that can legitimately come from experience - here's the actual code used:

rpgutil GainExp(char,amount):
oldexp = char.exp
if oldexp + amount < 0x0ffff:
char.exp = char.exp + amount
else:
char.exp = 0x0ffff
if char.exp > (1 << (char.level - 1)) * 100:
AdjCharLevel(char,1)
