Is it just me, or should Cythera have had a few dozen more betas before it was released? It has the beginnings of a good game, but they didn't take it far enough... Far too many bugs. Horrible graphics. Terrible grammar and spelling. That seldane couldn't even get his dead wife's name right. :P I've loved their games for a long time, but it seems like since they started doing RPG's they started releasing things unfinished....

There have been debates about Cythera's graphics on this board before. I think there was something about Ambrosia experimenting with a new angle mentioned(?).

Far as I recall, the characters in Cythera are at a slant, instead of being straight up-and-down. I don't think any of ASW's previous games ever used this slant.

I'm not really one to argue about the graphics, so I'll stay out of that...

And since I haven't gone far enough in the game to notice bugs or anything, I won't go into that either. Posted Image

RPGs have an immense ammount of proof-reading needed, and it's not exactly the easiest job for dead-tired programmers. It's why there are typographical errors in Cythera, PoG, EVN, etc. I would suggest that, when you find any bugs or typos, take note of them and send a list to help@AmbrosiaSW.com, and they are more likely to be included in any updates.

~SK

<edit>Irony: there was a typo in my post. I guess that means that I'm a tired programmer. =P</edit>

I dunno, Dave always seemed a little annoyed when he got non tech support questions. Still polite, but I think with the sheer volume of e-mail he gets, probably at least a quarter of it from idiots who don't read the FAQ or documentation first.... Posted Image I really really wish ambrosia had a bug report address or something. But I might do that. Take specific notes, at least. Later I can figure out what to do with them.

What the heck is a zodiac mongrel anyway, and why aren't you a member? Posted Image

I'm sure that he'd rather have the games function as intended than not, though.

It was a special member title given to me by Andrew. He's rather proficient at hacking the board scripts, so from time to time he does stuff like that. He told me that "zodiac mongrel" came to mind when he thought "Starkiller", though I don't know why.

And, asking for a member title isn't necessarily a great idea. You might not get quite what you expected. =)

Well, the Zodiac is based on the movements of stars and mongrel (not sure, but the image of a rabid dog comes to mind) could have something to do with killing. *shrug*

Just a naive question... are there any further updates planned?

In the FAQ, they say that Cythera is considered a 'finished work'; so no, no further updates.

Nope. Not since Mouse threatened to sue him for sexual harassment for labeling him a "gay rights activist" after his little performance in Zelda's topic "Straight Pride".

Andrew then changed Mouse's title once more to... something, you'll have to look it up. The effect kind of faded when many of the people he labeled became mods. (forge, shayborg, TomWoozle, Begemontike, StarStrafer (sp?) etc.)

Mouse really pushed it with his little performance there. Try looking up a post by "Deamon" in the topic. Here's a little hint: it's Mouse's second account.

Didn't he have three or four accounts? He also got his post count up to 1000 something in less than a month; by spamming. I've been here for near a year and a half, and I still don't have that many!

Actually, it's entirely possible to get your post count far up quickly like that, particularly under those circumstances, as he had to reply to EVERYBODY in that topic. =P

Actually, he registered at the end of March 2000 and by the beginning of May he had about 800 posts. He told me once it was because of spring break, but I told him he was full of it. (Or at least, I meant to.)

Here's some quotes from "Straight Pride":
First, Mouse said:

Quote

I guess I'm gonna go and try to repair the torn remains of you people's respect for me...
If this is a war, you *******es have won.
One last note...

Then, Deamon (Mouse)said:

Quote

When mouse said 'one last note:...' I think he meant he was leaving and not coming back to this topic.

Then (believe it or not), Mouse said:

Quote

You don't speak for me, Deamon. But, anyways, I noticed you're new, so:
Welcome to the Boards!

Then Mouse claims:

Quote

I see people throwing insult grenades and firing hatred cannons(yes, I know thats imaginative, but I can see things in my mind most people would never even imagine). And I don't know wahts wrong with Deamon, but he sure seems to have a serious problem making up his mind on sides. And he's a newbe on his first day, and he probably hasn't seen enough of me to see what I'm like.

By the end of it all it was pretty clear that, as Deamon himself said: (not a direct quote)
"If you're left handed, and not descriminated against, it's ok. If you're gay and descriminated against, it's not ok." Effectively making himself God and chooser of everyone's sexual preference.

Oh, and I just remembered Begemotike's:
resistance is futile.

Then Secret Ch1mp "insane klown posse" was banned for being a general nuisance to andrew.
Deamon's = "i can't spell"
Lord John Shakles ="lord of the thighs"
Flatulence= "stankbutt" and then "butt of the joke"
Idiot_box= conspirator (presumably something to do with the resistance)

Also, you'd wonder how mikee gets 6000 posts, on page 17 he posts (possibly a record outside of progress logs) 11 posts in a row.

Ironically enough, most people who got names were either banned or blessed. Go figure
