This is the first time I've visited this board(so I assume this will be locked or something Posted Image) But I've heard a lot of good stuff about Cythera...and I'm wondering, apart from having played it for like 5 minutes once, is it a good/cool game? For whatever reason, playing it in the beginning for a few minutes never really suited me as far as the game itself. Any insights that someone could give me?

Its a great game! Very cool. Try playing it again, you'll enjoy it. And we could use some more "newbies". Posted Image

It can be a fun game after you advance a few levels, and get some of the powerful equipment, and if you ignore all of the bugs.

Actually I found it pretty hard to get into- it's pretty dull at the start. It gets better though. Until it asks you to register...

Welcome to the Cythera boards, and yes, it does get exciting further in to the game. Grrr, I'd post more, but I was working on schoolwork/coding/working on my science project/away. Grrrrr. Anyway, iBack.

Is Cythera a good game?

Yes.

Do the people on the Cythera board have rediculously high karma?

Yes.

Therefore, would it be a good idea to play Cythera and hang out in this board?

Yes.

No offence to anyone here, but I never really enjoyed Cythera. That said, I'm glad that you all seem to enjoy the game so much and have created such a wonderufl online community here.

Actually, while the game is OK, it's a long way from the best RPG out there - the original Exile series far surpasses it, and the Avernum conversion makes them better still. To me, what stands out about Cythera is the world that was created for the game, in which most of our stories are based. What's so good about it is hard to quantify, but it seems to provide a rich arena in which our apparently fertile imaginations can play. Posted Image

And don't remind me about that pineapple! Posted Image I think the scars are starting to fade, now... Posted Image

Anyway, I liked Cythera better than Exile, but both engines have good points.

I wasn't referring so much to the engine, as to the games themselves. The Exile series has a huge advantage over Cythera, just by the sheer size of the games; there's so much to do, and most of it's innaccessible until you register - while I gather you can complete almost all of Cythera before registering, which makes it seem kind of pointless. Paying good money just to see the ending seems a bit of a waste, to me. Mind you, there are the other in-game benefits...

I can't really offer a good answer to this topic, seeing as I've never played past Omen's Test. Posted Image But from what I've seen, it's pretty good...I've learned enough from the webboards to know.

Although yes, there definitely are better RPGs, such as Nethergate, Realmz and Chrono Trigger. Those are cool. But, as cache22 pointed out, Cythera is a good world for basing stories in. Nethergate's plot is more or less set, since it's based on a Roman/Celtic war, although the characters would be good. Realmz, as I recall, is more or less just your basic RPG, and although it -could- be used for stories it's too varied. Not enough to base it on. Chrono Trigger could be interesting for stories, but the characters are too set. You can change the name, that's about it, so having your own characters wouldn't really work.

So, as far as I can tell, Cythera certainly isn't the best RPG, but it's perfect for our purposes. Posted Image
