Its okay, this is how you learn about what things do. In this instance, /mode #cythera +k thing sets a password of "thing" on the channel (or clicking the "K" box on some clients).

I would've guessed the channel had been taken hostage by French Canadians, though it would've done to know how much argent they were asking.

Anyway, for those of you who use Colloquy, *shamelessplug* I just finished work on a new theme which I unbiasedly recommend. You might recognize it if you use Simplicity in Adium.

It would be installed by sticking the theme in ~/Library/Application Support/Colloquy/Styles/

Disclaimer: although the theme has eight different colors for nicks, all the nicks in #cythera seem to hash to purple.

If I had access to a computer I felt comfortable having a constant irssi connection screen'd, then I'd consider doing that too, because there are definite advantages. But, since I don't have that, I might as well use something pretty

Actually, what I'd most like would be to have an irc bouncer that would notify me of everything that was said while I was disconnected. There is irssi-proxy, but it's not quite what I'm looking for.

i set up a temporary #cythera to serve as a gathering point while Ambrosia's IRC server is down. it's at irc.dal.net , port 6667, channel name as usual.

I tried the temporary one, but I don't seem to be able to find it. When I try to join #cythera, I'm taken to my own channel.

it's temporary to the extent that it vanishes when no one is online and reappears when someone joins. at the moment, no, there is no one around. you might have to try more towards the middle of the day to see anyone on.

Since the update to the server I've only been able to connect through using 'irc.ambrosiasw.com' as the server. Just thought the instructions might want to be updated.
