I was just thinking about how karma is Moderator exclusive, but I thought it would be a good idea to perhaps widening the spectrum. My idea is that whenever you get a karma point from a mod, you get the option of sending a karma point to another person (they don't get to send another point from that). That way, we can deal with more personal thanks than a moderator can; they have to award karma based on overall contribution to the boards. Anyone have any ideas on this?

As I had it planned, no, you couldn't give your negative point to someone else. But if you have, for example, -2 for carma, and it gets raised to -1, you _wouldn't_ get to send another point, which is even more incentive to not get negative karma. Anyone more ideas?

cache22, sorry, I know I have been lax of late, but my time usually excludes me from thinking creativitaly (is that even a word? it is now Posted Image). But, in another couple hours I'll see what I can do...

I happen to disagree with this act, you would have to ask andrew, and the Mods probably would have to think about it as well. It would be too complicated for it to work. I think andrew and the Mods should have the option of sending out karma to members doing so is the way it will be, and will continue to be as long as the boards last.

Actually, I think this is a pretty good idea. Normal members need a bit more power.

The karma system is fine the way it is. Letting members award karma is pointless.

Hmmm...perhaps I didn't describe my idea well enough.

For Example:

1) I get one karma from a mod.

2a) If I had negative karma, nothing else happens, I just raise one karma point.

2b) Assuming that isn't the case, I now, in addition to having my karma raised by one, have the ability to send one karma to another person.

3) I don't get another karma by not sending it, nor can I send it to myself. (so there is no reason not to send it unless you can't think of anyone)

The basic idea is that good members get a limited power for being good, and that members that aren't noticed by the mods can be officialy thanked. But, maybe this is too much power...I don't know. Perhaps it would be better if it were every two karma gained. *shrug* And anyway, I'm not trying to start a petition or something about this. I have no complaints about the current karma system. I just think it is a good idea for the mods to think of, and I wanted to know if anyone else shared my feelings on this. I guess most don't, but thank you Fletcher, for your support.

It would be a good idea, but most of our everyday freedoms are restricted because either someone exploits a loophole or abuses the system.

If somebody had two accounts, say GlueBubble/theKestrel for instance (first one that popped into my head). Under that system, it could be easily abused if Seth kept giving the positive karma points to his other account, which would then give it to his first, etc.

Oh, right! I forgot to add the clause to prevent this. I have now...

Also, is GlueBubble permited to get karma to theKestrel, or would his moderator status be taken away?

Yes, technically he is able to give karma to theKestrel, just like I *could* give karma to Trundaylan. However, there is a trust system andrew makes us work by, and to break his trust would be a bad thing...

Hehehe...that'd be funny -- have tK show up with 15+ karma one day. Posted Image But no, I never touch tK with GB.

It is a rule between trust, loyalty vs. lying and stealing. I would rather go with trusting and loyalty than lying and stealing.

P.S. I couldn't find a better word then stealing, put it this way he trusts you, and you have to respect the relationship of trusting, etc., on the web boards.
