Straight from the code of conduct:
(Karma is a measure of a person's standing on the web boards; 0 is neutral, negative is bad, positive is good. Moderators can warn (lower karma) or praise (raise karma) people based on their posts. If your Karma has been affected by a moderator, you will be eMailed the details of why your Karma was affected, and by whom. If someone's Karma becomes too negative (-10 or worse), that person is banned from the web boards until a moderator raises their Karma.)
Which means you will gat your karma lowered if you post spam, un-related stuff, make highly non-appropriate statements, etc. and if you post good chronicles, contribute positively to the web boards and help newbies (as I'm doing now, hint, hint

) your karma will rise.
