I know that this is not Cythera related, but the news is so big that I can't help but post this.

As you may have heard, both of the World Trade Center towers collapsed this morning, September eleventh, 2001, as a direct result of deliberate terrorist activity. Evidently, the collapse was caused by two airplanes wrecking into the trade center. The Pentagon was also hit, though the destruction was not nearly as bad. This is perhaps the worst act of terrorism ever. Hopefully we will respond with a rapid, decisive attack. I, personally, am glad that I am not in the country that has perpetrated this heinous act. If you want more information, turn on your TV or radio(Good luck trying to get through to any news site). The news should be just about the only thing that is being broadcast at this hour.

I've seen the footage again and again and I still can't believe it. Just seeing that plane winging into the WTC and it blowing up into a cloud of smoke....thousands of people dead....Damn it.....

Oh man, that sucks! I'm still crying!

They've taken everything else off the air on the news channels here in NZ, just showing reports on this. People have been taking flowers to the US Embassy; I'd probably do something myself if I lived in Wellington.

My sympathies to those of you in the States; I sincerely hope they get the SPAWN OF SATAN responsible!

Its still shocking to know that the famillier sight of the twin towers when you look at Manhatten won't be there anymore. Also, imagine all the people in those when they collapsed (there are 50,000 during busy days). There wasn't a lot of time to get down if you were, say, on the top half of the building. It truly is a saddening shock.

I am still shocked by this - I live in the New York area (luckily not in Manhattan itself) and got a look at the aftermath of the attack (right before building #7 collapsed)... not good.

I am highly doubtful that a foreign nation (finger often pointed at the middle east) perpetrated the heinous crime; I think it was a group from either the US or a near nation. The attacks did not cause maximum civilian casualties; although the casualties were vile and inexcusable, I can tell you that landing a plane in the middle of Manhattan would kill far more innocent civilians. From what can be seen, the "Palestinian" style is to kill as many innocents as possible, and this did not do that.

No, I think it was simply a group of particularly violent people who don't agree with world trade policies (the World Trade Center) and the US itself's military power (the pentagon). The attacks were on symbols of these two things. The search for who perpetraded the crime will focus entirely on foreign nations, and, knowing the US, they will "find" someone and attack. This will not be good. I happen to believe that the orginazation that hijacked the planes got rid of itself in the process of crashing the planes.

But that's just my two cents, feel free to disagree... and in NO WAY do I feel the attacks were justified, just for the record.

Have there ever been any suicide bomber terrorist type actions by US nationals? (Genuine question, not being sarcastic; I personally don't know of any, but I'm not American.)

As far as I know, this technique is used solely by religious extremist groups, almost always (or maybe exclusively) by muslim extremists. Unusual that, since I gather that main-stream Islam is rather pacifistic.

I, like most other people who have heard of this spent all morning crying and havn't stopped yet.
Most Muslims are pacifists but not all.
The attack was terrible and alhtough i am not american i am still afraid retalition will reach me (where ever that may be). Most people at my school ahve been worrieing about WW 3. But i think countrys like Afghanistan are not big enough to fund a conventional war so there will be none.
I am, like most other people terribly upset about this and it really recked my birthday (september 11).
Lots of innocent people died there and i hope it stops here.

I think I would have to agree with Talos,

This was a terrible act of terrorism but lets not all pin it on the middle east or the Muslims. I have seen some of the things on TV about arab leaders justifying terrorism to destroy the US, but what is little known is that that footage is over a year old!

Im Christian so Im not siding with Muslims here or anything but I think Talos has a valid point.

Im a Kiwi/American (Kiwi means New Zealander) and Im in Germany right now but still nothing else in on the news, I am shocked and amazed at this tragedy.

Lets hope it goes no further.

I'm not trying to blame anybody, really, I was was just exploring a relevant fact. Someone on another board reminded me that the Japanese also used suicide attacks in WW2 (Kamikaze), and I just remembered the Picts, back when the Romans invaded Britain (where a Pict would throw himself on a Roman spear so the one behind him could kill the Roman) - so it's not an exclusively Muslim thing.

I guess my mind's just grasping at anything to help me try and make sense of it all.

It's a sad day. It's a violent day. And it's probably a day that marks a harsher US attitude agains "rouge states".

My prayers and condolences go out to the ones that directly or indirectly been hit by the terrorist actions. Human casualties are never acceptable.

Personally I agree with Talos on many issues - I too dread that US agencies will have an enormous pressure to find the guilty ones, and in the process stomp all over the map regardless of who and what they trample on.

That none of the US agencies got wind of this terrible act is an enormous fiasco. It's worse than Bay of pigs and everything I come to think of. They have to make up for this.

Also as Talos points out: Would the terrorist want to kill civilians it would be far easier to release nerve-gas cannisters in the subway (as the doomsday sect in Tokyo a few years ago), than to hijack four airplanes. This is an symbolic attack, telling the US and the rest of the world: Nothing is safe, we can reach into your very cities and wreck your monuments.

To me this feels more like western terror-organizations style, than the middle-east style. It's more like Rothe Armee Fraction, who kidnapped wellknown industrials to capture headlines.

All this is speculations. God knows if the truth will ever be known.

Personally I'm going to donate blood first thing in the morning, that's a small part that I can help with.

This is all the work of Osama Bin Laden. This is the worst attack since Pearl Harbor. I live in Norway, but I'm no less shocked. This is the only event in the history that makes something in my head scream "Nuke 'em!". I really want to see the guilty parties disappear in a mushroom cloud. Of course, this is not possible due to the massive destruction and fallout it causes (you know, due to the Tsjernobyl accident, Norwegians can't eat sheep that's been in the mountains, we have to slaughter them). But I want to see these people dead, stone cold rocks in a dismal battlefield right at their own doorstep. Except for Bin Laden... take him alive. There are things far worse than death.

This sucks. My condolances to the victims of this gruesome act.

Not only that, but most countries (like the ones in N.A.T.O. and Russia) have agreed that a retaliation strike is necessary so I doubt there would really be any country to fight a war with. Something like this threatens the whole world, and lots of people would agree the world would be a better place without terrorists.

I'm so happy to hear that the world unites against terrorism. Hell, I was happy to see that even Fidel Castro expressed his rage against terrorism. I mean he could just let this pass, keep his mouth shut and so on, but the world is united against terrorism and we will bring the enemy down to his knees. United we stand.

rogan, osama bin laden is only suspected of doing this horrible act of terrorism. for all we know, it could have been your fathers brothers nephews cousins best friends former roomate. no1 really knows who it was. im pissed at this too, but i dont want our country to turn afghanistan (sp?) into a giant palace of glistening glass. sorry if this following part offends anybody, just trying to break the tension... wouldnt it suck if they crashed in rochester instead of manhattan? no more ambrosia!

Well, it's been only two days since I posted yet so much has happened...

I continue my stance that we should not persecute until we know more, or trample over nations filled with innocent civilians, but the limited evidence that has come up is pointing towards a middle east terrorist plot... but to my knowledge, bin laden just happens to be a particularly well known middle-eastern fundamentalist terrorist.

This morning, I heard the sound of rain outside... but there was no water. I live near the world trade center (but not in the city or on manhattan, luckily) and the sound I heard outside was that of debris falling. A horrid smell of burnt airplane fuel, melted metal, asbestos, and humans filled the air... it was sickening. When I went outside, there was a fog of dust obscuring the view.

It means so very much to me that other countries members care about us...often, the US is portrayed as the evil overlord country. When I see members from Norway, Australia, New Zealand, and others, posting the same things an American would...it means a lot to me. Thank you.

I would agree that we must hesitate before we point fingers. Once we gather reasonable proof, let nothing stop us, but until then, we should merely prepare, and look.

I dunno about Theo; Posted Image any ideas?

(edit) How about Ferazel? Has he posted here lately? (That's the problem with reading 90% of the back-posts in about a week, you get no sense of time-scale.)

And, erm, all the following: Posted Image

My goodness, I forgot theKestral! He's also posted on another board. Posted Image

Yes, I know, but he has made the threats, hetes America and the hijackers were of Afghan (or at least Middle-Eastern) origin. I agree: America should find out who did this before they make any moves, and let nothing stand in their way when they do unveil the perpetrators. Minimal civilian casualties are always important, but nothing should stand in the way of an advancing army.

Sorry that I haven't been able to post these last few days. It doesn't have anything to do with the recent terrorist attacks since right now I'm in Korea. I'll be going back to america this winter if everything goes according to plan. I myself haven't completely gotten over the shock of the events on tuesday. It was almost 10 PM on September 11th here in Korea and I suddenly see something at the bottom of the TV about two planes crashing into the World Trade Center. So I changed the channel to CNN and I was fixed in front of the TV for the next 5 or so hours. That night was just a flurly of events. Two plane crashes. Suddenly a fire in the Pentagon. Evacuation of the several federal building in Washington including the White House. The fire in the Pentagon turning out to be a terrorist attack also and the collapse of one of the towers followed shortly by the second tower. Of course this doesn't have anything to do with why I hadn't posted recently(I'll have to see what cache22 did with my character Posted Image) but just some of my thoughts.. Guess I better start reading. Posted Image

[/B][/QUOTE]
Hey, that was my birthday too! I remember after school, my Mum/Mom told me about it (WTC attack) when i got in the car. At first I didn't believe it, but then I got home I saw the footage. It wasn't until the next day that that I realised that they hadn't managed to evacuate the building before it collapsed. over 15,000 people have died, mostly Americans, but hundreds of Britons and people from other cultures also. I don't think that the people responsible for the attack thought that it would be such a success. And I expect they didn't wan't to bring the WTC to the ground, but I just happened as a result of the aeroplanes crashing into it.
I am from England and so if America goes to war with someone, We will have to join you. But hopefully, people will keep sensible heads and not go attacking people before they know who was responsible for this terrible act.
