Abydos Ghost

The ghosts only respond to input about their former leader, and the city they lost. They just add to the effect really, and aren't necessary to complete the game.

And so the problem remained; lots of people were mean, and most of them were miserable, even the ones with digital watches. Many were increasingly of the opinion that they had all made a big mistake in coming down from the trees in the first place. And some said that the trees had been a bad move and that no one should ever have left the oceans. - Douglass Adams

Yup... you know where the secret entry to the underground part of Abydos is, right?

Oh, yea, that reminds me, after you do go down there is a passageway to the right (characters left/east). At the end of the passageway there is a secret door to another room, but I could never find another door or anything off of it. What purpose, if any, does the secret room have?

Sometimes this happens to me, and 50% of the time it's because the page was cached. Press the 'reload' button. However, sometimes I've found that my post is gone - it can be very annoying, especially if you spent some time writing it. (I recommend copying every message you post, and then checking. If it's not there, you lost nothing.

Wierd, I can see my posts _today_. Maybe it was just that one bit of time that it didn't work.
[but now I can't see any of the New chronicles/New file 3/5 page, dangit]
Anyway, does anyone know what purpose, if any, does the secret room have?
Also, now that I think of it, is it possible to harm a ghost? I would swing with the Sword of Heros, and always miss. I can't remember if I tried the Mystic Spear or magical damage of any kind, but I think I did.
Also, does anyone know how to kill Alaric? What about Magpie, the "fool"? I heard some talk about it when I first joined, but when I try for Alaric, he just runs up and casts a killing death strike. Then I run from the delta-room, ask him to heal me, attack him again, and get killed again. Repeat. With Magpie, he goes into a casting spree and I can't ever hit him to hurt (if you understand what I mean). Any suggestions?

The ghosts will respond to words about their former leader/killer (a topic of much discussion (double sp?) here at the webboards.) they will also respond to words about the little red-headded fella downstairs.
As far as I know, the extra doors are just to keep you on your toes. i've basically searched the room top to bottom (in 2d terms ) and there are no secrets (just another red herring i suppose)
As far as killing Alaric... [disturbed voice] why???
Ok, if you really wanted to, I suppose you would have to blast the guards with fireball/heroe whak'em.
Then try to deathstrike Alaric up close or (better yet) shoot him with those mystic arrows that were conveniently left for you in a little room somewhere in LKH (i forget where, just keep looking) and shoot'em/fireball'em.
Go Get'em!!

Speaking of the spell Fireball, for some reason, now whenever I cast it, it kills only me.

You have to cast it far away, or else it'll just hurt you and your teammates.
