I was just looking back to the older posts, considering whether we do need a cythera archive, and I think we do. If nothing else than just for the team stories (once again and the undine stronghold come to mind).

So i'm starting a vote for whether or not Avatara and Slayer should ask andrew for a
"Best of Cythera" archive.
(i'll even try to keep track Posted Image)

Yeah, I'd like one... but it would be more aptly named, "The Best of Cythera Team-Stories", or something along those lines.

Though its kind of like the US electorial college where our vote represents the vast majority of Cytherian people, I personally disagree if that's what we're going to use the archives for. I mean, what good is an archive if you can read the same thing (without the multiple people posting and messages to others) in a chronicles story?

Maybe if we had a good discussion or topic worthy of an archive (not counting any retold story) I'd change my mind, but until then I vote for "no."

I agree with Talos to put the team stories in an archive, but we do need some good discussion topics too. Too bad we don't have one...

It seems to me that it would be good to have an archive to store the old team stories, and other stuff we deem worthy. It would prevent our stories from being lost in the mists of time, so that people can easily read our stories in their original forms. In addition, it would be a valuable resource for those who want to make chronicles from the team stories.

I'd agree if I could find more of that. Maybe something from the old period, I'm looking.

The original and possibly current (I'm considering locking it at 20 pages as then it becomes hard to view recent posts) taverns might be canidates. They have some fond memories, and it serves as introductions to some of our stories.

Mmmm.. I agree, though I am going to take a look through some old ones as well though here would be some suggestions:

The page about character profiles, though I don't remember the name.
The Undine Stronghold
The Evil Clone
Once again
Custom Spells
You know you are too deeply in Cythera when...
LKH (for story)

Looking for more...

P.S. Post on the coming of the Dragon! Maybe someday I'll be able to add it to the list!

I'll vote for it as soon as I'm finished posting this. I've read Slayer's arguments to Andrew, and he could use my support - after all I'd be moderating them. (or helping anyway)

Slayer, as any topics that go into the archives are immortalized, that means we both should go through the topics and clean up any unnecessary spam and footnotes (and in some cases fix grammer and sentance structure). Once something is archived, it can't be changed or essentially taken out, so we want to shine up the topics and polish them a bit.

TheDarkDragon, some of those are good ideas, however the Character profile topic is not one to include. Some people still like editing their characters (me for one) and adding new ones. (that is one of the few old topics that is okay to bring back, if you have a new character to add) Archiving it would prevent any editing and additions to the topic, so it wouldn't really work to its full potential.

Everyone else, yes I'll agree to this - I did mention something about it in November when the archives first came out, but that never really had any support. Just be careful with what you choose to archive.

YAY Posted Image
That's five for it and none against it Posted Image!!!
And in retrospect I do agree that the character info would best be left out.
Now on to the next part:
Which strings should be included?
The stories (once again, the undine stronghold, and the evil clone primarily) would be obvious first choices, but what else?

I think Andrew had a couple of rules about archives. First, we'd need the archives - its not a guaranteed thing. C'mon guys, topic suggustions are appreciated.

Anyway, its either 90 days or 3 months that the topic has to be (last post) before we can put it into the archives, so nothing new. Maybe Once Again (though Talos has the original version on his website), the original Tavern (why not? Tavern Continued implys to new people that there was an old tavern), and maybe the Undine Stronghold....though the latter two need to be cleaned up.

Also, it might help if Slayer and I had better communication, but that's up to us to work out. Posted Image

LKH comes to my mind as another should-be immortalized story.

Is it old enough? I'll probably get killed for this by Andrew, but I've taken a direct quote from the requirements:

The purpose of archiving a thread is to choose topics that haven't been posted to in some time (over 3 months, at least) yet contain considerable value (informational, interesting, or amusing), and make them available in a "Best of..." archive that's easy for users to find.

Please be choosey when you pick a topic to be archived (only the cream of the crop should be archived), make sure it hasn't been active for at least 3 months, and close the topic after you archive it. It is also suggested that you clean up any profanity or abusive language before a topic is immortalized by archiving.

We need to make sure every topic that gets archived meets those qualifications.

Yeah! We have a "Best of Cythera..."! So I guess you'll be archiving stuff in it real soon, right? Posted Image

If LKH isn't old enough, just clean it up now and then wait for it to pass three months in age and *click* immortalize it.

As you may have noticed, I brought a few topics to the front for the archive. If you can think of any others, please post about them here. Please include the number of the topic(s) that you wish to be archived, as well as their name(for example, this topic is 753, Once Again is 503, etc.)

What do you think of deleting the spam first? I left a note on the ones I cleaned up a bit ago (without the spam, like posts that don't have anything to do with the story in the sense of someone who wasn't even in the story to begin with).
