Cythera community?

Hello all. I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but I am new here:

Why is there no Cythera community? A friend of mine gave me the demo of Cythera. I came here because I though I could find some updates, extra scenarios, graphics/sound files, maybe even an editor. I was surprised to find barely anything.

I would just like to know why there is so little for such a great game.

Best wishes.

Cythera has no editor because the one used in its development is just too convoluted and buggy for a public release. As for the other things, well, they're pretty hard to do without an editor. However, that doesn't mean that there's no Cythera community. If you liked Cythera's story, check out the Chronicles board for lots of extra stories related to Cythera. Heck, even if you didn't like Cythera, most of the stories on that board are good enough to stand alone without Cythera. We also have a number of team stories on this board that you can participate in, if you'd like. And on behalf of Rogan Posted Image welcome to the web board.

Only two hours late this time! Posted Image
I'm not sure how that patch Tycho Maud came up with worked but that's probably as far as you can go (and of course the pumpkinmagpie patch).

The patch worked quite well. I think there is a grand total of three add-ons -- The Pumpkin Patch one, Talos' cursors, and Theo's patch to gain extra toolbar functionality.

Yeah - actually, there is only one "real" plugin for Cythera: the Magpie PumpkinPatch. It actually extends Cythera. Tycho's and mine are just simple ResEdit tricks though: for some reason, the menus that Tycho's enabled were disabled at the last minute, and none of their functionality war removed. All you needed to do was switch some stuff in ResEdit. Mine was even simpler: I just changed some graphics for the 'crsr' resource.

Heh, thanks for explaining a few things.

Well, I'm sorry there isn't as large a community as I thought, but it's fine. I'll check out the chronicles, I might post a bit here, and hopefully I can try to do something with my limited programming skills.

What I don't understand is that I've noticed Ferazel and Harry (both good games) have an editor, which are unsupported and probably buggy. So I suppose it could do no harm just to give the editor for Cythera a whirl just to see if anyone can make use of it.

Still, just sayin' hi to all of ya and thanks for the small (but appreciated Posted Image) welcome.

Best wishes.

I have fisted the Ambrosia Sw office in Rochester and have found sevral things
1) Cythera was written in Glenn Andreas (sp?) spare time.
2) To fix all the bugs in it would take a month or 2 and Glenn doesn't ahve the time.
3) TO get the Cythera editor up to the Ferazel editor it would agian take a month or 2.
4) COldstone is coming out so Ambrosia is just going to go with that.

Doing a search on "editor" in the board will reveal more details, but in short, it would do harm - it is relatively trivial to modify the data file using the editor to remove all places that require/check for registering the program.

If the editor is released, then there isn't much incentive for people to register (since they can just change things to bypass that themselves).

Modifying the editor to prevent that isn't really possible either (just trust me on that one).

Just setting the facts straight here...

Couldn't you make it so you have to register the editor (or put in the same code from your registered Cythera) before you could change stuff people can say (think Timon)?

I take this time to reinterate my opinion that you shouldn't be able to get the sapphire book quest without registering, as it allows people to bypass many of the bigger... registration 'ensurers'

Meaning that if you have fetch/remote manipulation, you can almost finish the game.
