OK this is going to sound really bad but Hector and Timon both died. Do I need them to finish the game or am I good with just Mealeager(sp?)

If you've already talked to Larisa(Timon's sister), then you'll be fine.

True, they can carry a lot of equipment, but you can still hold all that they would have.
