Wow the board has grown a lot since the last time I was here! Well anyway I was thinking and I got an idea for an editor for Cythera (if that hasn't come out as well since I left, but I doubt it). RESEDIT! While being one of the most aggravating things to work with in my thinking it should be able to edit Cythera. All that would be needed is a guide and someone to make the Templates like they did in the EV section!

Board Growth and an Idea for editing

Cythera doesn't use resource forks to store scenario data. Believe me, if it could be done, it would have been done long ago.
There exists an editor for the Delver engine. However, the author has declined to release it, citing bugginess and complexity.

I believe one of the members here played around with Cythera in ResEdit and found that he could change the graphics. All-new graphics wouldn't be the best idea for a plug-in though, and the plug-in he made could only be installed by opening ResEdit up. That leaves out many other people, like me, who don't have ResEdit.

You can get resedit from the developers section of ev addons. And if you have ace, and you know your way around resedit you can make your own moduls.

Only things like cursor graphics, and perhaps the title screen, can be changed. Tile, character, and object graphics are right out.

Yup. I did an examination of the resource fork that was very complete, and have only been able to change interface graphics. Everything else is secure in the data fork.

I know this all has probably been said before, but I think that the two main reasons that Cythera hasn't really taken of are:
1. The graphics don't really catch people and draw them in
2. It needs someway to expand it through plug-ins and such.
For example: EV has a complicated editor(to make it work that is)and has great graphics it is one of the best games I have played in a while.
Ares: decent graphics(can handle better ones if people make them) and a really easy editor that all it needs is to finish the editor through betas and it will take off even more than it has already. Also Ferazel has an editor. The main games of Ambrosia have editors and good graphics those are the only things that I think Cythera needs (maybe along with the filling of plot dead ends and such)

I really doubt that they would keep the editor from us; the fact is, there isn't an "editor" as you would think of it. Probably the reason that the editor hasn't been released is that it's little more than a hack; nothing that could be released without massive support issues.

I can't confirm wether or not this is true, as I'm not gandreas, but a while ago there were rumors all over of Glenn saying that a Cythera II would be released in Glenn's interviews. The Cythera II would tie up loose ends from the original Cythera. Also, add to that the topic asking about "what would we prefer" and a couple others created in the history of these boards that were asking about possible features we'd like to see implented in Cythera.
As I said, they are only "rumors" and as Glenn said, "this doesn't necessarily mean anything."
