It`s tricky, but here`s a way to get enough money:

1. Complete "find Sapphire books x/10" and get the "replicate spell".
2. Go to Kosha, buy a lot of diamonds from Atreus.
3. Go to LandKing Hall.
4. Cast "replicate" on a crate (located in the northeast corner).
5. Move the crate a little and put your diamonds inside the new crate.
6. Smash the crate, leaving the diamonds on the floor (this is necessary because things need to "stick" before you can replicate them).
7. Remove any debris lying over the diamonds and cast "replicate" on them. Replication consumes a lot of mana, but if you want to do this fast just talk to Alaric and tell him "help".
8. Repeat step 4,5,6 and 7. Remember to talk to Alaric.
9. Repeat as many times you think necessary (about 15 times should do it, I think).
10. Now, repeat step 4. Put an empty chest in the crate, smash it, remove debris and cast replicate on the chest. Move the chest into your inventory. (note: DO NOT try to move debris if it lies under the chest as you will end up moving the chest and have to make it "stick" again).
11. Repeat the replication of chests until all of your characters inventorys are full of chests. (put all other things in crates and such). Remember: Talk to Alaric.
12. Take the diamonds and place them in some of the chests, then go to Kosha.
13. Sell the diamonds to Atreus.
14. Put 10 000 of the oboloi you get into the crates. If any money are left lying on the ground, don`t worry. As long as you don`t move them, they`ll be there the next time you show up. Make sure your team members are close to you as some of the money drops down at their feet...
15. Head over to Cademia, talk to Antenor. Tell him "building". Buy the building. Unlock the door with the key he gives you.

"I hope you will enjoy your new building..."
Hope I didn`t forget anything...

PS you can`t get beds or desks or other furniture in there. That sucks.

There's another way to get money...It requires no mana, no special skills, only time, a little money, and a chest.

1)Make sure one of your party members has a chest in their inventory.

2)Go to the flax farm (north of North Shore Vineyard), talk to the guy in charge (forgot his name) and ask "flax. " He'll sell you flax at 7 oboloi a bale. Buy as many as you can.

3)Go to Odemia and find Hehe, the thread-seller. Tell her "flax." She'll buy your flax at 10 oboloi a bale, giving you a three oboloi profit. (Repeat this trip as often as you like -- the more flax you buy, the more you can make when you sell it -- and the limit you can buy is 999 bales; the inventory limit doesn't apply.)

4)To keep/install the money, put 255 oboloi in the chest you're carrying. Then, transfer it out of the chest into that character's main inventory. Repeat until all the money is in your grasp. The money adds up, with an unlimited amount possible.

5)Once you've got ten thousand, go to Antenor in Cademia and ask him about the "building". He'll sell it to you.

I had about two thousand oboloi when I decided to do this -- it took me half a Cytherian day to get the money for the building, plus enough left over to replace my initial investment.

WARNING FOR THOSE WISHING TO BUY A HOUSE:

Don't try to go too much over the money needed! When I was flax-trading I thought I would store up some extra money and see how far a sword could be upgraded. After I got to buying about 1700 bales of flax the game crashed and I lost the past two hours of flax-trading. Just thought I'd put in my two dollars (two cents is over-used).

It does seem a bit overused. Of course, if you upgrade the sword, go back for more money, then upgrade again, and at some point save it might work better...

Just thought I'd put in my two bundles of flax. Posted Image

This is a touch off topic, but if you leave your possessions in the "building" will they still be there if you leave Cademia and come back later?

Not unless you put them in a crate and smash the crate, making the items "stick".

Yes, but then you'd have to make more trips total: the less money you have, the less flax you get.
Also, another warning: there is a limit as to how far you can upgrade a sword. If I remember correctly, one less upgrade than the Sword of Heroes. Also, if you can find the Sword of Heroes and the Mystic Spear and the gauntlets, you shouldn't need to upgrade swords, which I only learned after I had two swords at max power.

This is the dumbest thing I've ever seen. Get two sapphire books. One can be found on pynx floor 2 in the southwest corner room, another can be found on a beach in a patch of "loose dirt" if you have a shovel, read Slayers cythera guide>mission walkthroughs>Sapphire Books and just get two. Get the spell "Open" from the fourth degree hall. Cast it on the door. You get all you would get if you had paid all of the oboli.

Here. Have an iMac.
Take it.

Agreed, and also somethings you can't get:

A key for your very own house.
A sense of acomplishment.

Have fun in your stolen house.
