Harpy cave

Does anyone have any tips on how to get through the Harpy cave? I've tried several times throughout the game to go down there and do whatever it is I'm supposed to do and those @$#*% harpies keep confusing me. And while I'm running around confused they keep confusing me more and more, and I end up having to force quit the game to end the vicious cycle! It's really starting to tick me off! At first I just thought my character wasn't strong enough but I'm at level 8 now. I figure that ought to be enough. I've also tried putting Odd Helmets on everyone because I've read that they give you a bit of magical protection, but it's just not working.

I haven't read that anyone else seems to be having any major difficulties with the harpy cave so I guess you all know something I don't. Please tell me what it is! Thanks!

Put the strange helmet on yourself to prevent getting terrorized. The Rally spell will calm terrorized party members. You can get through without the helmet if you have sane members to fight and if you use ranged weapons, but it's a real pain and very dangerous.
No, not THAT button!

If the strange helmet doesn't protect you, something is wrong. However, while there is a treasure deep in the cave, the only thing you really in the cave is one harpy egg, which you can get by running in, grabbing one, and then using Nexus to escape.

If you really want a harpy egg, just get one from the Kosha grotto.

I found that the harpies were pesky and annoying, but for the most part, harmless. I would occasionally get condused or paralyzed, but they didn't seem to hurt me that much.
Whenever I did see one, I would go after it, unless it was runingaway and wasn't cornered. All my party was wearing odd helmets I think, or perhaps I was wearing a mystic helm.

I'm always scared about getting too close to harpies. Only when you are right next to one can it use spells on you. I might attack one that is running away or is next to me and hasn't done anything yet. If they are all after you in a group, though, one will start a spell and the rest join in, and you either die a slow death with a bunch of annoying magic sounds, or you just can't take it anymore and just force quit and hope you didn't save withought any magic to teleport out of the place.

The fireball spell is pretty useful for these groups, but an easyway to keep the groups from coming after you would also be mass terrorization, or if you don't like wasting magic, try setting timon on an AI to follow you wherever you go, and letting Hector and Meleager run away and attract the big clumps.
Keep timon with you so you can heal hHctor and Meleager.

After fireballing them three times, they tended not to be as vicious to me. In fact I sat around eating and one started pacing along the opposite wall. The decoy thing does work, and they always get back if you go down stairs.
Unfortunately they reappear to quicly to flamebroil them all and death
strike *yuch* requires you to walk up to each of them.
