Just messing around with the game and my first impressions are really good. I think this one might be a keeper Posted Image

Anyway, just wondering if you get more than 3 possible character portraits with the registered version. I just didn't see one that I liked.

Or, is there a way to customize your portrait in the game?

Thanks!

I believe it's no and no. I haven't registered Cythera, but I'm almost certain I'm right. Try the opposite gender portraits and see if you can find one you like.

Technically, you probably can customize character portraits; they're probably stored as PICT resources in the Cythera application or Cythera datafiles.

Sorry, but they're not in any pict or icon resource. If you ever changed the portraits without using the editor, you would be messing around with hex.

You can't. Ambrosia-only.

Hey, Ambrosia! Please?????????????????????? Will you please archive the editor so I can make cool stuff like AI's n' neato stuff like that, PLEASE???? If you could just direct me toward a way to improve the AI system (because, like the OS X, it's great to have outside people working on improving something) or anything else in the game, I would be extremely appreciative, supportive, and sent you a free copy. There are no plans on releasing the editor for Cythera, for a large number of reason. These include the fact that is it undocumented, unstable, and, if you didn't write it, unfriendly to use. There are also other issues and limitations in the engine as well (for example, if you want to change a map to add items, or even to move something, you need to restart the game from the beginning to get the "new" thing). Releasing the editor would also make it possible to remove most of the registration checks, which also isn't in our best interest.

However, you can currently edit and experiment around with the AI without the editor (and even with the editor, you'd pretty much need the full C++ engine source code to add in new tests and actions). We could add something to add in new portraits, but even that won't be perfect because the CLUT that the game uses would produce butt-ugly versions of pictures that you would paste in (you really need to retouch/design the portraits for that color-table to get something that doesn't totally suck).

Ok. Thanks for letting me know how much you hate the Cythera engine, but don't you think the general theory of "outside editing and improving" is a good one to apply on a game? It means less work for you, and it's free, too! You might want to consider it while you make more applications. You could just encrypt anything having to do with registering. Viola! (without the accent, please!)
