Since you didn't specifically ask for a spoiler, I won't give one. But here's some advice that might help. When you're looking around in Cythera, look at everything; chests, skeletons, torches on walls, even the walls themselves. There are all sorts of secret things you might miss if you don't. To get to the Omen's reward, you must open and go through two secret doors (double-click on them) and search (hit L key, then click on) the correct object.

If you really wanted a spoiler, post again and ask for one. Or check other threads on the board; I'm pretty sure specific instructions for finding the Omen's reward were posted at some point.

Who the Hades (since its a greek game I use the greek term) is Captain Hector?

No disrespect or anything, just curious. If Captain Hector refers to Hector of Cythera, may I advise you that he is just a hero in training and not captain of anything.

You don't know who Cap'n Hector is? Sacrilege! Hector is the African gray parrot, the mascot of Ambrosia who lives in the Ambrosia offices in Rochester. He's noted for bothering players of EV and EVO who haven't paid tribute to Ambrosia yet, and he also gives the Ambrosia gamer's community sneak peeks of products in development.

Of course I know that. It just didn't quite fit into the phrase: Captain Hector is my slave
It was the slave part that confused me.

It's a little reference to EV/O - Hector is incredibly obnoxious if you don't register. Conquering Hector - the ultimate impossibility.

I have a sneaking suspicion that Hector from Cythera was actually named after our favorite African grey parrot and not the hero of myth…

chillywilly: Did you check the instructions on Slayer's site (http://www.macclassi...era/cythera.htm)? They're pretty good. Read the description for Omen's Ring under the Unique Items section. It ought to lead you straight to your reward.

And I have a sneaking suspicion that Hector the Parrot was named after the trojan hero. It kind of fits in with the company's name, 'Ambrosia'. Along with the fact that many of the characters in Cythera were greek mythological people.

Well, I asked about Hector on the Ambrosia Banter board. Ought to kill any more controversy over the notorious parrot being named after the Trojan hero.

Well, the esteemed David Dunham says that all Hectors in all Ambrosia games are named after our favorite office mascot.

And Hector was just an arbitrary name for the parot?

If so, why are all the other names heavily mythological, inparticular greek?

Hey, Dunham didn't tell me who Hector was named after…

The names are from Greek mythology because Glenn Andreas is a real fan of Greek stuff - it says so on the Cythera product page.

Ok that makes sense. But would anyone mind telling me why there is this Qabalah stuff included (Qabalah is Jewish mysticism, part of which is the study of thetree of life: see Alaric's blazen brazen)? That doesn't make much sense if it is themed off Greek/Roman.

Cythera, anyway, is an island off the Peloponessus (sp?) in Greece.

Ambrosia is into alot of greek stuff.

Ambrosia : The food of gods.
Janus : Can't remember right now. I think it is greek. http://janus.ambrosiasw.com/ is a mirror.
There are others that I just can't think of right now.

Janus is a Roman god.

I said that bit about the island, Croax, because Cythera is directly tied down to Greece, whether or not Hector is.

Of course!

Just like the HECTORs in Avara...

BTW, someone should update that game with texture maps and things like that. It was a ton of fun, and it could probably be made to look as awesome as the gameplay is.

Janus is a roman god with two faces: one in front, one in the back of his head. January is named after him, one face looking backward to the year that just ended, one face looking forward at the beginning year.

FWIW.
