I'm asking about the "Strange Rod" in the desk in Alaric's Quarters. I'm quessing it's like one of the extra options you can use in Cythera that aren't in the Preferences(or was it options?) menu. Like you can talk to Alaric and say things like : Easy, Difficult, Hard, Very Hard ...... And it will say the Difficulty level has been changed. But mine doesn't work. It won't Play an audio CD. It's a problem I have even with the Apple CD Audio Player - I can't hear any sound. And also I want to ask about the spell Ascertainment(did I spell that right?). It's supposed to allow detection of lies during conversations. Where can you use it???
What is all this stuff for????

I suggest you contact your local Apple Authorized Repairman about your CD drive, because the strange rod does control the CD player normally.

Try using Acertainment before talking to any of the Comanas.

I've got some stuff that I don't know what's for either. How can persuasion help you? Give me an example in the game. How can the charm spell help you?

I couldn't get the charm spell to do anything for me at all!!! But I did benefit a little tiny bit from persuasion. There are people who will only talk to you at certain times unless you have persuasion. Certain shopkeepers who normally tell you to go away if it's after hours will open up and sell their goods to you if you have persuasion. Also, Halos will talk to you anytime you encounter him. I don't think it was a particularly useful skill to have, but it saved me a couple of minor annoyances.

Charm.
It basically allows you to get better deals in buying and selling.
I believe it makes the price decrease more when you are trying to haggle during buying, raise when you are selling, and lowers the probability that the shopkeeper will refuese to buy or sell.

Life is a mind altering substance. It should be considered a drug and taken off the market. Any remaining life should be confiscated.
Note:
1 Life causes your brain to function and muscles to build. It therefore should be condsidered a steroid as well.
2 Once used, you cannot stop using life until you die. It is the most addictive drug out there (excepting pokemon).
