Is there any way to get experiance for training and learning magic from the majes other than fighting?

Yep. Everytime you complete a task in your "to do" box, you gain experience.

I believe that it varies from task to task. I know for certain that not all tasks give exp, but most do.

They do vary..because of difficulty and so forth. It's like killing things...some are worth more because they're harder.
I'm pretty sure that every task you complete gives you some experience...the only exceptions would be the ones that never get checked off your stupid list!! Can you tell I'm still annoyed by that?
