Hi Im new at playing this game! Im having trouble. For example I dont know how to get more power so I can perform the spells i believe i have learnt in the Pnyx library.
Also i visited the mine before i talked to thaius and now she wont tell me to go visit the dude in the bar. also it wont mark it off my list of todo things.
Also I have only found two people to join me - are there more?
what is obsidian please? how do i get it so that i can improve my weapons with the guy in the cave! How do you get the vineyard guy to accept the wine contract?
wow i have a heap of questions and i know i am probably a bother to those who have been playing for a while but i just seem to be walking around now! ive done several of the things on the todo list like rescue the princess the flowers on the grave the net to some dude etc etc but nothing big! please if its not too much trouble could someone help?
thanks

Have Lindus train you on Casting.

>Also i visited the mine before i talked to thaius and now

If I remember right, it never marks off.

>Also I have only found two people to join me - are there
>more?

Yes. Two more can permanently join you.

>what is obsidian please? how do i get it so that i can
>improve my weapons with the guy in the cave!

Obsidian is essentially volcanic glass. As such, it can be found in Land's End Volcano. Also, the Kosha gem merchant sells it.

>How do you
>get the vineyard guy to accept the wine contract?

Unfortunately, you can't. At least Ambrosia says you can't.

>please if its not too much trouble could
>someone help?

Sure, I will Posted Image.

Slayer is right, to become more powerful, you need to be trained. You can find an expert in a skill, and as long as you have the training points, ask to be trained in that skill.
If you open your character status window, and then check the abilities pane, it will list your training points. To get more training points, gain more experience.
For example, Lindus will train you in magic, and Hadrian will train you in combat.
The To Do list is just a rough guideline to help you keep track of tasks as opposed to a master list of tasks the game considers still undone.

You haven't mentioned whether or not you've registered, but it makes a difference as to the answer to your question. Until you've registered, you can't learn runic magic, healing magic, or alchemy. Once you've registered, there are three mages that will teach you the basics of those skills (in exchange for training points as usual). I can't remember the names of the mages, but it's the three mages that have rooms in the Magisterium other than Lindus and the librarian. Once they've taught you the basics of one of the skills, you can then learn the related spells from the tomes in the Magisterium library. Hope this helps. Have fun!

Um, I guess this is a good place to ask, but how do I get at the Hydra in the Cult of Scylla? I saw it, but the door that leads to it is locked. Also, how do I understand the ghost in the Iron mines? Where are the other people that join you? And where is Alastor the leather worker? I got that gator skin for him, but I can't find him.

Wow, many questions. Let's see how many I can answer:

1) You need to find the key to the locked door (unless you can bash the door down by attacking it; I don't recall whether that works on the door in question). The key is on a skeleton elsewhere in the cult temple.

2) To understand the ghost in the mines, you need to learn his language. To learn his language, you have to talk to the leader of his people, the Seldane.

3) People who can join you include Hector (in Land King Hall), Melager (on the bridge near Cademia), Aethon (in Cademia near Ratcatcher's Guild, but only after you've talked to a couple other people), and Timon (mage in the ruins NE from the Magisterium). There's a couple other people who join you temporarily as you complete missions.

4) Alastor is in Cademia in his tannery (usually). It's in the NW. If he's not there, he's probably in Dares Eatery. But he'll only take the gator skin from you when he's working in the tannery.

Whew, I think I answered everything.
As a note though, these and many other answers can be found on Slayer's website, http://www.sweepies....era/cythera.htm

Good answers, Ereid..I just have one quibble..I think that the door that leads to the rest of the Temple of Scylla is opened by a switch. Head north to the room with the fireplace and look under everything. There's a switch hidden there someplace.

The path to the Hydra is blocked by both a locked door and a secret door.
