The horse-track ran straight. It took ages to ride. I would never be able to catch up with the bandits. "Ferazel. Do you know a quicker way to get to the Temple of Scylla? You know it would mean that you'll be rid of me quicker if you did."
The mage sighed. "Yes, there is a quicker way. Unfortunately I can't teleport you since you're influenced by my healing-spell. I can only maintain one of the spells at a time."
"But if there were two mages, then there wouldn't be any problem?"
The mage sensed where I was heading. "Wait a minute..."
"Do you know of any mages around here?" I asked.
"Well, yes there's Grator up ahead. But he's a mean, vicious bastard."
"Sounds good to me."
The filthy old man called Grator reeked. It was difficult to be close to him. "What you say? Teleport? Huh?" His voice sounded like two goats having a disagreement in an barn.
I repeated myself. "Yes! Teleport to the temple of Scylla!" Yelling at the top of my lungs. He was close to deaf, too, so I had to stand close to him.
"What's in it for me, huh?"
"A bath, no expenses spared." I said in normal voice.
"No need to be rude!" Perhaps he wasn't deaf after all.
"500 obloi." I yelled.
"Ha, ha. I have no need for obloi. My price is a gallon of your blood. Deal?"
"My blood? Why would you need my blood?"
His almost blind eyes got a kind of lingering look. "Well. You did want me to take a bath, didn't you."
I agreed to the proposition. Ferazel explained that he couldn't go with us. He had to stay behind, since I was influenced by his spell. "It will only hold for another five hours. Then you'll be close to death again. And if Grator takes his fee then... Well, then you're dead for sure. And all my work is for nothing. Including the dandruff-cure." He sounded angry and almost worried.
It was a good enough deal for me. The filthy man summoned his powers. The air shivered and a mirror of water appeared. He gripped my hand and pulled me into the shivering appearance. The last thing I saw in the wavy surface was my white face and the worried look of Ferazel the mage.

This is a pretty good story. The transition from riding around to talking to the mage seemed a little sudden, though.
