"What the devil...?" Rogan looked frightened and stunned at the creature. "We killed you back there...in the Undine stronghold!" The creature stopped and its eyes shined bright orange. "Another story, my dear Rogan, another story," the creature chuckled, "that was quite a different member of our kind...Tavara himself, remember?" Jack stepped forward and looked with disgust at the creature and said: "They killed Tavara's ghost, so what stops us from killing you? Rogan fought one of your kind before and knows your weaknesses." The creature raised its arm, making his henchmen stop. He chuckled again and said: "Well, my dear victim, Tavara was Tavara. We are...Undine. And Undine are far more powerful than that poor mage ever was!" The creature drew a blade, seemingly from nowhere. The blade was black, but at times almost transparent, like ethereal void. The creature raised its arm again, and a score of undead, skeletons and orcs charged at the small group...
Jack scored the first kill this evening. The undead didn't have a chance. Rogan drew his sword and plowed through a group of orcs and Ferazel used his magic to shatter the skeleton bones. Talos took care of a group of liches headed his way. "Spread up!" Rogan yelled as he chopped the head off an undead. Ferazel ran to the opposite side of the large room with skeletons chasing him. Talos cast fireballs all over the place, but with extreme accuracy. Jack drew a sword and took care of a orc and sent a lich straight to hell with a death strike. Rogan had a large group of undead chasing him, until he suddenly stopped, turned around and brought down a powerful lightning at them. A few seconds later, the attackers were flat on their backs. The cloaked creature had not budged a muscle during the fight, he was just standing there, chuckling to himself. He raised his arm for the third time, and a lightning struck down at the ground. Out of the lightning came four demons. "One for each of you," the creature said with the darkest voice. The demons charged at the four adventurers, and their magical attack would have succeed, had it not been for Jack's lightning attack. A bolt of electricity took out one of the demons, which resulted in a hideous scream and a flash of light as the demon vanished. Rogan took the second demon by surprise, and managed to pull his sword out of its skull seconds before it died too. The two remaining demons were surrounded by the four men, and a dagger hit one of them in the head. The last demon seemed scared, but he was still looking for a fight, so Ferazel dealt with him easily, using a fireball. The only thing left of the creatures, was dust. Then the cloaked creature started to move...
"To be honest," the creature said, "I didn't really have much faith in those demons. But I have more faith in myself, yes." The creature then raised his dark blade and ran towards Rogan. The blade seemed to transform into stripes of black in the air as the creature approached. Rogan parried the first blow with his sword, Excalibur, and the second too. The other party members stood quite still, observing the fight. Rogan drew a dagger and parried a blow aimed at his left shoulder and hit the creature in the right side, unfortunately only cutting the cloak. "Help!" yelled Rogan as he ducked from the blade, only to receive a kick in the face. He raised his sword to parry the attacks, which became more aggressive and harder to block. Jack prepared a fireball, and threw it at the creature. The fireball sent the creature into the wall, but it was soon on its feet again. Rogan moved out of the way as Talos took over. He drew his sword and cut the creature in the stomach, mildly wounding it. "Let us see if we can out-magic him," Ferazel said to Jack. "This guy seems to rely on his melee combat," he continued. Ferazel and Jack quickly approached and prepared a devastating spell. "Talos!" Jack yelled, "get away from him!" Talos got the message and realised what was about to happen, and jumped backwards.
Ferazel and Jack united their forces and sent a lightning bolt at the creature. The blinding flash of light didn't cease for twenty seconds. Rogan got up from the floor and looked around. "Looks like you got him," he said when he observed a puddle of black liquid on the floor.
"Okay," said Talos, "let us go through that cave." He pointed at the hole in the wall where the creature and his henchmen had first appeared. "The other paths are blocked with rocks," he continued. Rogan walked up to the hole and continued through, the others close behind. The hole was about five paces long, with another room on the other side. When they entered the room, they could see the other side of the blocked entrance. "So...this is where we would end up anyway," Jack said. "Maybe this is it...Tavara's quarters."
The floor was covered with stone tiles and, quite strangely, there were a lot of candles...lit, new ones. "So the Undine have use of light," Rogan said as he approached a table in the northeast corner. A table and an empty bookshelf stood in the corner. "Guess the Undine cleared the place out," said Talos. Rogan looked around and when he took a closer look at the bookshelf, he noticed something: There was a book lying on the top of the bookshelf.
