How the heck do you beat the Cantharan Gateship (on The Mothership Connection)? I'm really stuck on that!

While I'm at it, what's the best way to go about beating Hornet's Nest? That's another really tough level...I can handle pretty much all the levels except for The Mothership Connection, Hornet's Nest, and Yo Ho Ho, though if I get lucky Yo Ho Ho is really easy.

In any case, what's the best way to beat The Mothership Connection? Actually, it's not just the Cantharan Gateship...what's a good way to defeat that Carriers?

Did you pay attention to the briefing points?

Defeating the 6 Cantharan carriers will take good piloting skills and strategy. Circle them while firing at them all-out.

defeating the cantharan carriers is easy. just either:

A. fly around them and shoot them to little pieces with the onas

B. Lead them on a chase throughout the Nastiroids and they'll crash and die Posted Image

for Hornet's Nest:
Kill the intercepting aud fighters

attack and destroy the audemedon escorts/distract them while the HVDs finish the interdictor off.

Once that's done, simply tell your carriers/hvds to escort the science vessel, switch to a HVD and kill the aud carriers when they arrive.

Thanks, though I sort of do it the opposite way when attacking the "Massive Device". My HVDs distract the enemies while I destroy the massive device.

As always, there are two sides to every story. On Hornet's Nest (my favorite level!) I favor warping immediately to the carrier and taking it out. It is set a fair distance from the center so you can push and pummel it without worrying about those pesky escorts. Once the carrier is destroyed, leave immediately so the fighters don't get you, and get back to your science ship -- you might still be able to aid in its defence. The rest is cheesecake.

I do think that leading the carriers through the Nasteroids is the best way to get rid of them. Set your view to 1/16, start at the beginning of the line, and warp through all of them KEEPING AS STRAIGHT A COURSE AS YOU CAN, only moving to dodge asteroids. The carriers will zoom into them one at a time, until all you have left is a few fighters and maybe a heavy cruiser to deal with.

Heh, sorry, kinda went off the deep end there. Hope it helps though Posted Image

I always found the Onas pulse gun to be a very significant advantage. I found it faster to kill the carriers by just plain shooting and circling a lot easier.

I thought that one mission with the Salrilian Bunker station was by far the hardest. I never could beat it the way it was meant to me beaten (actually capturing the station).

Hornet's Nest is one of my favorite missions though. But I don't know how you guys keep those HVD's alive, because I'm usually the one doing all the work. I've had limited success killing the Audmedon ships first, with the Gunship giving me the most trouble. I usually blow the interdictor up fast, then hightail it out of there and use superior numbers and ganging up to kill the Audemedons. I find it very helpful to keep the carriers together, so I always send two of the carriers to the other. Also, because of the HVDs' higher firepower and the AI's not-so-good piloting skills, I transfer to those after blowing up the interdictor.

For Hornet's Nest, I destroy the Audemedon fighters first thing. Then, I attack the gunship guarding the inhibitor. Once the gunship is destroyed, my 2 HVDs will clean up the carrier, the cruiser and the inhibitor. Then, the rest is all a piece of cake.

Eh, sorry about the absence. My cable went down for a while.

I've never been able to beat The Left Hand the "proper" way (by defeating the Salrillian Station), though I can beat it easily by simply making all of my ships target the enemy planet, build a transport, and take a course AROUND the station, then land there. Peace of cake.

I think the hardest levels are Yo Ho Ho, The Mothership Connection, and Hornet's Nest. Make Way used to be hard, but I can beat it pretty easily now. The key is to take control of and keep the enemy Flake Drone. Doing so will prevent Assault Transports from getting to the stations and giving you a hard time. My strategy may not always get the Obish Battleship, but I can beat it all the time without the Battleship anyway.
