I won't bother to flame him; you can just read his post entitled '######s in Space?'. My question is, why does he still have zero karma? This may sound pretentious, but if I were a mod, I would karmaslap the guy as far as I could. That kind of post is so utterly offensive it cannot be tolerated. Why is he getting away with this without punishment?

Actually, he has -10 karma and is banned. If it doesn't state this next to his posts, it certainly does in his member profile.

I've found that the best way to deal with career spammers like this is also one of the most effective of the age old responses to a toddler throwing a temper tantrum: ignore them. Any from of attention, including retort and punative measures, only serve to reinforce their behavior.

Thus with Captain Cannabis, I preserved what I felt to be the best example of his work, (to have at least something to show andrew if necessary), while systematically deleting his posts and dolling out karma without comment. And behold: Here comes one of the spammers that would have had the Ares community in an uproar (like so many before) and he passes like a sigh.

An altogether apt response. I think Captain Cannabis' purpose was fairly obvious.

You have to wonder about people whose sole interest online is harassing others. A sign of their true nature, perhaps?

Seems to me that if they have to get their kicks by harassing a tiny BBS community that their life must by hilariously miserable.

Thank you for your polite and logical responses to my question. It is very refreshing after being on some other boards.

I don't understand how people can do that. To be so close minded and narrow and also to not care at all what other people think of you?!! I think I get too wrapped around the axle worrying about other people sometimes - it has lead me into uncomfortable situations - but to do something that flagrantly racial and biased - I dunno. Does this guy not understand some of the most basic things about being human, and the fact that everyone on the face of this little planet is one, and in many ways like (or unlike, maybe) him? It just confounds me.

It's called attention-seeking, my friend. When the spotlight is on him, he feels special and important, so he tries to garner any attention he can, even negative attention.

It's a problem particularly prevalent on the internet, where anonymity grants freedom from the rightful repercussions of such transgressions.

Just look at the board - notice anything, out of place, say? That would be what happened (And read the first post in this thread too).

Yeah, attention getting - what a way to do it. Humph.

Unless you are close minded and narrow, it is a good thing not to care what people think of you. Independance is a good thing, it is just used for the wrong reason. Not that I'm defending him; I hate people like that. Especially when they are on the internet.

I found his post rather amusing, in an absurd kind of way. Not that I share any of his views of course...

This Cannabis creep is obviously of somewhat limited intelligence...

No, no, no. I'm not mad that you're back, you just pop in, even though you said you were you leaving.

Wait a sec, I thougt it was you who had the eye problem - I am mistaken!! It's Jager, I wonder how he's doing?

I think I'll go e-mail him.

Anyway, I think the board has been saturated by idiots lately, but at least it's picking back up (and there are more normal people than idiots), I think Nova, in the end, actually brought more people here.

I often find that people who do bad things are often thought of as being worse than they actually are. I personally don't care if he's racist or is pretending to be so, although his post didn't really do anything useful, and it was provoking for many other folks, so it was a sound decision to lock his topic. One thing, though that I often find is that mostly unbiased folks don't have much tolerance for biased folks and often consider them to be stupid and such, which I think is actually kinda biased in an ironic way. I think that biased people are either generally using flawed logic or were raised in a situation where everybody they trusted and admired was biased, so they assumed that the biases were correct.

Anyway, enough of my semi-ranting about my views on such deep matters...

You say "post"? I think you are referring to the one of his posts that wasn't deleted like the other 10 that were deleted because of extremely racist/sexual implications that directly violated the guidelines. (and they went out of their way to do so on a completely unrelated topic)

If you didn't know of them, I don't blame you. It just means we're doing our job. Posted Image

Ah. Good job, then. A few minor modifications to my last post, such as pluralizing some things and replacing "lock" with "lock/delete" and such should have it perfect.
