Is there point in buying Ambrosias Ares if you already have Changlings (who were bought out by Ambrosia) version.

I don't believe that Changeling's version had support for Multiplayer or Scenarios, so if that's the case, it's well worth the upgrade.
I believe registration is discounted to $5 for Changeling Ares owners.

The two most significant differences between the original, Changeling Ares and the new, Ambrosia Ares are that Ambrosia's supports Scott Kevill's GameRanger, which is a must for finding multiplayer opponents, and, perhaps even more importantly, Hera and plug-ins, which offer infinite possibilities.
Both of these features extend Ares's playability hugely, so I wouldn't stick with the old Changeling version. Ambrosia does indeed offer a generous discount to Changeling owners, so I'd recommend checking that out.
