A lot of those abbreviations are used fairly rarely on the webboards. EP, for example, NL, CO and GS. Generally speaking, superfluous abbreviations detract from a post, and can irritate, especially if they're layered on too thick.

I never said I approved of abbreviations. In fact, I agree with you. This topic is mainly for those who are new to the webboard, or if a strange appreviation has someone confused. The only abbreviations I acually agree with are: u for "you," (sp) for spelling error, and ship abbreviations, such as HVD and HVC. Those are the only ones I would use with any regularity. the main reason I started this topic is that abbreviations annoy me too, and I can see how a new member could be confused.

Skyfox: Sharp eyes there. I was typing too fast. Thanks.

Interesting... At GameRanger, the Ares players are constantly referring to them as the "Cans."

Hehe, I didn't have the Ares race spellings down until a few months ago. I kept getting the middle letters within "Audemedon" and "Salrilian" confused...

You forgot CA (Count Altair) and Jov (Joveia), but I suppose your newness to these boards might just excuse you.

If you're doing member nicknames, there's also:

SA for Sundered Angel
Sarg for Sargatanus
Lag for Laguna
Mag for Mag Steelglass

and a few other less common ones...

I wasn't including usernames, or I would have included The, for The Journalist Posted Image. Thanks for the excuse. I need some more good excuses; I'm running out.

Is that the name of a race or something from a plug–in? Or is that a member nickname?
Remember, people may be looking at this who don't have any idea what that means. If it's from a plugin, it can stay, but no more plugin jargon.

Steelglass: did you make that up, or have you seen that somewhere?

Here's an updated list, my last one was a bit messy:

These have The Journalist's Seal of Approval:

HVC-heavy cruiser
HVD-heavy destroyer
sp- Check spelling
ATR- assault transport
faq-frequently asked questions
u-you
ru-are you

These are races:
Sals-Salrilians
Auds-Audemedons
Cans,Canths- Cantharans
CO-Cantharan Order

These are members and moderaters-

Jov-Joveia
CA-Count Altair
Lag-Laguna
SA-Sundered Angel
Mag-Mag Steelglass
Sarg-Sargatanus
The-The Journalist

These don't really fit into any category:
mod- usually "moderater," but may mean "modification" in Engineering Dept.
NL-Nathan Lamont
GR-GameRanger
EP-Engineer Pod
GS-gunship
tran, trans-transport

I think that's all…
