Thanx for the help

Firstly, drag it into Stuff-it expander, see if I will unstuff when forced, if not try holding option click on the download, and if not than use control click and use save to a disk or a file or whatever

Download the latest version of StuffIt from: http://www.stuffit.c...r/download.html
Then drag the ares .sit file onto StuffIt.

Thanx for the advice, guys! I've already downloaded Stuffit Lite 6.5.1., which includes the most recent expander...no luck. I'll try what Overrider720 suggesed. I'm guessing neither of y'all had any problems downloading/unstuffing, huh?
BTW: check out my other recent topic about the weblinks.

I'll let ya know!

Okay, I've tried both suggestions Overrider720 suggested...no luck. What I get when I download the file is a .bin file, not a .sit file. I dunno what to do now. The first time I played Ares, it came on a disk w/MacAddict magazine. Oh, well <sighs>.

Thanks, anyway, guys.

Hey could someone mail him an unstuffed Ares 1.2.0 - I would but I can't attach files. (Don't mail the preferences, just Ares)

Nope, Shrout1. I have no problem with .sea files or .sit files. I also downloaded a few other files from the addons area...no problem w/downloading or unstuffing. It's just this one file. I downloaded Barrack (great game ,btw) and it is a .bin file...no problem. It's one of those automatic unstuffers, or whatever you call it...made w/VISE. The Ares file looks incomplete, as if something is missing. Can you believe it, I downloaded that file at least four times, at 11M each (that's 44M to you and me). Did you download it, yet? Each time I download it, it's final form on the desktop looks "incomplete," if you know what I mean. Why one .bin file would dl/us w/no problem and another...
Let me know what you think.

Thanks!

I would send you the uncompressed file but thats about 34mbs. And my line crawls.

Oh, wait i could send it to you! if i compressed the individual parts and sent you them each individualy.
Whats your email?

You mean, sort of like disk images? You can send them to: tim3810@yahoo.com or Ezreadr1@aol.com. Your choice. Thanks, Skyfox! I went to that index of/pub/ambrosia...
and tried to download the full file from there (I have done so in the past with other files), but it was almost at the end of the download when it quit because of some error. I have no idea what's going on. But I would appreciate it if you would send those files to me. Thanks again!

Cya on the boards!

Try d/l ing it from pub/ambrosia with :
http://homepage.mac.com/fred_cheung/
Speed Download. It has the ability to resume d/l s with errors.

Thanx, Patrick, I'll try that right now. I'll get back to y'all!

Okay, I'm back. I found out that only those with broadband internet connections can use Speed Download. The website states that it is not for those with modems (in other words, those with dial-up service), which I have.

Thanx anyway for trying.
Happy New Year!

If you use Zip-It 1.4 you can cut files into chunks that are reassembled by clicking on an SEA that asks you to tell it where the chunks are sequentially. I wasn't thinking anyone should mail it uncompressed (Sounded like it though), but it would be great if we could get it to him. Does someone have a fast modem that could mail it? I think he'd appreciate it!

Wait- u said that the file is a .bin file? It's supposed to be. Open that. You should get a screen that just says "ares," and a Continue button. Click continue. Then Click Install.

That's it. This shoud work. If any of this doesn't work, you may have some computer conflict, or you may have to upgrade. If you get an error message, tell me what it says. Ypou shouldn't need to use Stuffit Expander.

Thanx, The. I do know how .bin files are supposed to operate. This one, for some reason, refuses to fully download, no matter where I get it (Ambrosia, index/pub/Ambrosia...). I have had no problems with .bin files in the past. Why this one is a problem...I have no idea. However, as much as I like Apple products, and the iMac in particular, mine began to crash/freeze...so I have now gone over "to the enemy." I now am using a Compaq 5301RSH. Man, is it great! Great picture, fantastic performance...Now all I have to do is get that mac emulator... Anyhoo, I'll let you know!
Maybe this time I can complete the download. Keep your fingers/toes/any other body parts crossed!

Happy New Year!

I used to have problems downloading .bin files and suchlike. Perhaps the problem is inherent with earlier versions of explorer/navigator or perhaps it's something else. A simple fault in your preferences perhaps?

New approach: What is your online service, and what version? I think I heard somewhere that some online services have a problem. You could also try Ambrosia tech support. Clich on "contact us" on the homepage. I am interested to know what they would say Posted Image
