WOTF Preview

I've uploaded a preview of my upcoming TC, Wrath of The Fallen, to the Addons. Until it's there, it will be downloadable from: [redacted]
For those of you on dialup, the file is 1.2MB. It contains prerelease versions of the first five levels of the game.

An excerpt from the readme:
Wrath Of The Fallen takes place in a region of space near Sol that has only one major government, the Triplanetary Confederation. It is basically a loose alliance between the dominions of three capital planets: Athens, Sparta, and Zebia. While the peoples of these three planets and their colonies have grown apart over the years, their denizens are all the same species, as all three worlds were settled from an unknown homeworld a long time ago.

Now a threat to the TPC's domininance has arisen: The Sol Empire, under a ruthless dictator, has declared all-out war against the TPC and set about manufacturing warfleets. And in a surprising development, they seem to be winnning.

Take the role of a young Triplanetary Elite Guard Commander, just out of the military academy, as he fights against the hordes of Sol. The fate of the sector is in your hands....

It won't unstuff. StuffIt just quits about half a second after it starts up.

WOTF Preview is really B5. I just decided to release it as a preview to see if I could get some outside viewpoints, considering that most of my beta testers have apparently decided to not send in reports anymore.(I only got yours and a "its better" from Pyro!)

Umm, there's a new sprite for the SE Carrier, the fifth level, new sprites for the SE Fighter and Heavy Fighter, i wrote a readme, I added the SE Gunship, a new SE weapon, and the all of the levels are much, much harder.

So doesn't anyone have an opinion on it?

I have an something to say about WOTF,now dont get mad if you like it but, I think you should trash it and get War In The Void,(WITV).

Which could be pretty hard, as neither WOTF nor WITV have been released.


I'm not going to start a flame-fest on whether WITV or WOTF will be better upon their release. Why did you even bother to post this anyways? I started this thread asking for constructive criticism, not for people like you to post "WOTF is so bad that you should throw it in the trash!", without even offering the reason why you think it is bad.

If you really think that WOTF(Preview) is bad, then at least post your reasoning so I can fix the problems!

While I do like nice stuff being said about my plugs, I think you should try not to just be rude to him, and tell him what to change to make his plug better. WITV would be much worse right now if I didn't have testers bossing me around with what to do. Anyway, I'll try to give you some advice after I've played WOTF more extensively, Patrick.

Good lord yes. You should see some of the levels Mag tried to get away with. It took me months to beat some of them (and those are the ones weren't proven almost impossible).

Okay, here goes. This is with playing level three, not actually beating it yet. Also, this is in the order that I'm noticing stuff, so some things may come late or get repeated as I think it again after forgetting it (or if I think I should write it for each level):
Before actually playing:
1. Shouldn't you have a new title screen?
2. The intro is very short. I think that added length and depth would really help.
Level 1:
3. The entire human fleet is just a bunch of fighters?
4. In the prologue, it says you're checking for hostility, then deciding whether or not to engage them. In the briefing, it just tells you to kill them.
5. No location on the map.
6. Frigates aren't really frigate-ish. Frigates, in my opinion, would have a lot of good anti-fighter weapons, which they don't, in this.
7. The graphics you made don't really seem to look like the ships they're supposed to be, or they just look odd. And why do fighters only have engine glows?
8. I think the heavy fighters might need to be renamed, as those seem more like a completely different class of fighters than just a heavier version of the normal ones.
9. Friendly fighters have turrets. Why? Fighters don't tend to have turrets.
10. The briefing is pretty short, and doesn't have much back story to it.
Level 2:
11. The prologue is extremely short, and needs some more depth and such.
12. If you just killed off the human fleet, how do they have ships with which to be raiding your transports? And why would they be busy raiding transports instead of defending themselves if they have no fleet to stop you from killing them?
13. Why do you have more ships escorting a few transports than you do in order to completely wipe out a fleet?
14. The location for this mission is in the middle of nowhere. Have you considered making your own map for the locations?
15. The beam sounds are all the same.
16. Friendly frigates have the atomic pulse's explosion, which doesn't have the right feel for a ship exploding.
17. Why does a race that just developed FTL technology have better ships than a confederation with plenty of systems that's been around for a long time?
18. The graphics on the triplanetary confederation's ships don't match. (Frigates look way different than everything else, carriers don't look like they're built from the same stuff as transports, etc.)
19. It's an extremely easly level. The others are too hard, and this one is too easy. They should be more balanced.
20. It doesn't have any pars set for the end.
Level 3:
21. How come the confederation hasn't wiped the human scum from the galaxy in the amount of time it has taken the humans to build an entirely new fleet?
22. No location.
23. The graphics for the station could use some more detail.
24. It needs briefing message titles.
25. Why are you commanding this whole thing from a fighter? The carrier would be used as the command ship.
26. The carrier is pretty fast and maneuverable for its size.
27. Why are the graphics for some planets actually graphics for half planets (looks like half got blown off)?
28. Cruise missiles are insanely slow and weak. I haven't seen them reach their destinations once.
29. Not all of the human ship graphics match up (some yellow, some white).
30. Carriers do not need screen flashes in their destroy sequences, unless they were much larger.
31. It really needs another mission name. Ripping it off of Star Wars doesn't look good, and it doesn't fit the mission. If you're beating the empire down, how are they striking back?
32. Why is launching fighters silent?
33. Everything gets built too fast.

I do not mean to offend you in any way. And I hope this gives you an idea of what to look out for in your levels and plugs in the future.
