ARES LADDER TOURNY OFFICIALLY OPENS @ www.magleague.com!!

Unfortunately there seems to be some problems with gameranger lately, meaning that you won't be able to start playing tourniment games untill the gameranger problem gets solved. In the mean time, join the ladder. To join just go to www.magleague.com. Go to the top, on the left hand bar select ares, and on the right hand bar select; join the ladder. Hit load page and you'll be taken to the sign up page. There is a small bug in the sign up and it always asks you for an icq number. Just make something up, it's not important. When choosing your rank make absolute sure your rank says sergeant. Untill you join a clan and get promoted, you should not alter that rank, since it only applys to people in clans. Your new password will be emailed to your address you specify. Once you get your password, you are now a member of the ares ladder!
Once you are a member there are many things you can do now. There is a message board on Mag that you can use to check and see when somebody is hosting a game, or if they are talking smack about you. You can check the player list to see who else is in MaG. You can check the player ranking to see who's the best so far and who's the worst.. You can check out which clan is winning the clan wars, and you can even make your own clans. Remember all clans must have at least 3 people and they must be willing to join your clan. The rules will be posted on MaG soon, and you can check them out there if you want. You can also change your password and rank if needed as the tourniment evolves. Now onto the most important part of MaG;
Playing the games...
A Mag game can be played anytime, with any mag member, as many times as you both want. there is no limit. Both players however must agree that it is a mag game before you start playing. Gameranger is currently the only place to play ares, but i'm working on adding magchat as a place to play as well. Once you play your game(s) both players have to go to www.magleague.com. The winner enters the ares ladder and goes to the submit game(s) part of the menu. He enters in all the games he won and then enters the losers names. It is now up to the loser to go to www.magleague.com and confirm all the games that the winner posted. The loser always confirms, if he fails to confirm a game, the game sits in the unconfirmed game category and no points are rewarded. However, it is required that you report the game within 3 days of it's submission, or else the game may be dropped. If it is discovered that you are somehow abusing this proccess of submitting games, you may be banned. You must only play games with other people, meaning you can't play yourself and submit that. (lol)
Now for the points...For playing any one person on the ladder and winning, you get 5 points rewarded to your total. The loser loses nothing (except his pride) :-) The points keep adding up and the ladder itself will never restart (unless it is a special tourniment you are in.) So the only thing that hurts you is by being afraid of playing games. Those are the rules for the individual ladder...(pretty simple) Everybody is involved in the individual ladder when you sign up automatically.
If you are in a clan this gets a little more complicated (but it's still pretty simple)
All clan members are assigned ranks which are determined by the leader. The leader of any clan is ranked as a marshal. You may fight with individual clan members for rank outside of Mag, and your leader will promote/demote you accordingly. all inner clan skirmishes are not recorded on mag in the clan section, but you may, if you want submit the games on the individual ladder. Many clans may probably chose to award the higher rank to whoever is higher on the individual ladder. Here are the point values for each the clan ranks:
The clan leader is the Marshal--this person is worth 10 points
The co-leader is the General---this person is worth 10 points
there are 2 colonels in a clan--both are worth 9 points
there are 3 majors in a clan---all are worth 8 points
there are 4 captains in a clan- all are worth 7 points
there are 4 lieutenants in a clan- they're worth 6 points
-------------------------------------------------------------
All of the rest are sergeants--These players are worth 5 points
If a clan member challenges a member of a different clan and wins, he gets how ever many points the other person is worth, plus the amount of points he is worth added to the clan total. However, he only gets how many points the other person is worth added to his individual tally.
Example: if a captain (7) challenges another captain (7) on another team and wins, the winner gets 14 points added to the clan tally, and 7 points added to his individual tally.
Both people must be in a clan for this to happen. otherwise if one person is not in a clan, individual points will only be rewarded.
Simply put, clans are only as good as their worst player...
And those are the basic rules..any questions, comments, ect...post it below as usual..
I hope to see everybody who plays ares on this ladder. Ideally it would be good if every ares game on gameranger was a mag game. It is now open and ready for business. Join now, this may be the only cease fire time period on the mag ladder, due to gameranger being down. www.magleague.com Take advantage of this and Join! WAR begins once gameranger gets back up, so be prepared for an ass kicking good time.

Seriously, this is great news, especially the part about adding Ares to MAGchat. You forgot to mention that MAG also has a hotline server, so we could use that to find games until Gameranger is back online.

I don't know how you'd be able to play ares over hotline though...i don't think it's possible but whatever, the official magleague hotline site is located at...24.156.34.52 If you want an admin pass just ask me i can get ya one. otherwise i think the login is mag/magger for log and pass or something like that.
The two people who want to play just give each other their IP and some other stuff that I forget. After all, people were able to play Ares MP before GR support was added.

...which, even though the rest of the site is really neat and great, the message board is crap. Sorry, but even some bad forums, like blizzard's, are easier to read and generally are nicer.

The biggest problem with the message board is you can't tell if there is any new posts until you scroll down to the original topic, which will be a pain to go through after a couple weeks of new topics and replies. You also can't see the posts unless you highlight them and click read (as opposed to just clicking the name).
