I'm not trying to complain but it's almost deppresing to see that there are around 10 topics (last post in past 5 days) on the web boards. I go to the EV web boards and there are about 20 topics. Every one was expecting the release of Ares 1.2 and Hera to bring a revival but it hasn't happened. What's happening to the Ares community?!

Well, Ares just is getting old, people never talk about EV on the EV boards likewise, but they have arguments and polls and lots of stuff people can be involved in. We have RPG's and bars, which only a certin type of person can get used to.

It all depends on what's being talked about. Occasionally some debate topic pops up in Trash Talk and people come over from the other boards in droves. As for the expected revival, that depends on the amount of attention Ares is getting. Attention depends on (primarily) how many plugs keep coming out. Currently, Ares has no new large plugs out. Once things like StarLance, War in the Void, and Marathon:Invasion come out we'll see another big surge.

**Goes over to Purge Commodore Ambrose

I think a bit of it is Slug leaving (although not much)

You all know those people that think "If it's not good enough for Slug, it's not good enough for me."

On the plus side, ****** isn't visiting the board much anymore (inside joke)

there is only one board esecially for ev, or evo. and besides: the game is bigger, you can choose your ship, the upgrades, and all that kind of stuff.

I agree with Sargatanus. Escape Velocity has a LOT more plug-ins, and the game itself is far more sophisticated than Ares. We need more plug-ins!!!!

I disagree. Ask anyone on the inside, Ares has a much more complex history than EV/O. Of course, to know most of this, you have to be on the inside, but then again, we all have our troubles, no?

I was talking about how the gameplay is more sophisticated, not really the history.

Ummm....gameplay? Do you have ANY idea how many different elements of gameplay you can include into ARES with HERA? Do you have any idea what stuff you can do with hera that you cant do with EV? The Marathon:Inv plug is scratching the surface on gameplay, and its the best looking plug I have ever seen in my life! If it lives up to what I think it will, it will be the Ares equivilant of EVGE or Pale!

Anyway, nice to see new members around... Posted Image

I don't think M:Inv even goes as far as you think it does. Now, if I ever get bored enough to make {Deleted}, then you'll really see the limits on gameplay. Or maybe Shockwave Command, but that's not going far in either. Oh yeah, I should post that in Engineering…

Ok, sorry. I guess I didn't realize how sophisticated Ares really is. No offense ment and none taken.

The Ares Engine is what is particularly sophisticated. The game itself doesn't actually delve into the true power of the engine that much. I wonder if anyone will actually create a plug-in which exploits it.

Like {Deleted}? (I like being secretive). I have a pretty good idea of how that would work, but I'm not actually sure how far I could go. I guess I might give out a little bit of info if there's enough demand. Oh, and the entire idea behind {Deleted} is to get you to say:
"Hey, when did I quit Ares and start playing this?"

I might be able to go pretty deep, but that's only if I experimented and tried stuff out for several months straight while neglecting pretty much everything else. I also have WITV to work on at the moment, and I've gotten very into MOO2.
