Bah to people wanting cheats. I knew more people would be coming to the boards and/or coming back to the boards, but people coming to ask for cheats is not something I expected.

You come along with me and have a good time. The Galaxy's a fun place. You'll need to have this fish in your ear.
'I refuse to prove that I exist,' says God 'for proof denies faith and without faith I am nothing.'
"'But,' says Man, 'the Babel fishis a dead giveaway, isnt it? It could not have evolved by chance. I proves you exist, and therefore, by your own arguments, you don't. QED."
"'Oh dear'Says God, 'I hadn't thought of that,' and promptly vanishes in a puff of logic.

Now, if you were a cynic like me you would have expected only that.

...and man goes off to brove that white is black and black is white and promptly kills himself in the process...
It's sooo much easier to prove that 0 = 1

This is more of a hack than a cheat but it is easier to cheat this way. Open a copy of Ares with Res Edit (if you have it.) Go in to the STR# resource and you sould find a file called "cheats." Click on that and replace the strings with the number one in the first one two in the second one untill you reach the end (there sould be 8 strings, if there aren't you'd better download it again.) Go into the game that you just hacked. To enter cheats press return and type the following:
Code Function
0 -Makes your control ship invisible to enemy radar
. -Gives you about 75 building resources
1 -Instantly builds ships when you build
2 -Increases pay rate
3 -Decreases pay rate
/ -Renames planet (see Below)
In order to rename a planet it must be yours. Enter the cheat. It should say that you are about to name something. After that select the planet that you want to rename, press return and type what you want the planet to be renamed and press return. Click off your planet and click back on and wal-la, your planet has been renamed.
These cheats should work with version 1.1.1 and 1.2.0. I don't know if it works with any other version.

Mac will live forever
I'm fine with OS Nine
I have an iMac, it rocks
Die Windows!

I'm not going to put all the cheats on here because a lot of people might get mad at me, but if you go to the Ares homepage here at Ambrosia, go to links, then go to the pages made by Ares fans, one of them has about five different cheats that work for registered versions (the bottom one I think).

By the way pretty much all of these are just false cheat codes that turn off your computer or something. I know from personal experiance, then spent like the next five minutes laughing at myself.
