Ambrosia Software, Inc. announced today the release version 1.2.0 of Ares, the tactical Inter-networkable space battle game that gives new meaning to the word "shrapnel."
Ares 1.2.0 now includes Hera, a full-fledged scenario editor for Ares! Now you can modify Ares' built in scenarios, play scenarios made by other Ares fans, or even create your own custom scenarios for Ares! The universe is limited only by your imagination! Oh, and did we mention that this upgrade (as well as Hera) is entirely FREE for registered users of Ares?
The full press release is available here; we suggest you skip the marketing mumbo-jumbo and just go download Ares 1.2.0!

I'm glad to see that my major concern with b6 has been fixed.

However, why aren't the movies included in the full installer?

YAHOO!
I'm right now working a plug for Ares in which you control the Grolk who are trying to fight back against the Gatori, Cantharans, Salrilians, and especially the Audemedons.

To Escape Velocity: Nova and Beyond!

Millennium. Its coming, prepare for it.
Coming to the EV Chronicles.

The lack of movies was an oversight -- we will fix the installer and re-upload it.
If you have an older version of Ares, you can use the movies from it -- they didn't change and will work fine in the new version. Sorry for the mistake.

Download 1.2.0, and delete your older version.

Providing you keep your original prefs I think you should be. Just to be on the safe side, I'd make a duplicate of them before you run the new version, and if you open the game up and are at the beginning again, justreplace your new prefs with the duplicate you made. Or alternatively, you could just use the cotton mouse space race method to change your level...

[edit] I just downloaded it and installed it. Where are the preferences? Should I replace the data files or the whole thing?[/edit]

I think it was CM who figured it out... anyway what you do is you open up your prefs in res-edit and change a couple of characters of the code... I can't remember exactly what though, someone else will have to give you details. And I wouldn't recommend just screwing around with it, you might stuff them.
