What happened to all of the people who were on the webboard all those months ago, like Admiral Darkk (ahem.. Fleet Admiral Darkk), and Admiral Dennis, and Bobba Fett and all those people. Those of you who remember the AresCentral.com webboard will know who I mean.

Fleet Admiral Darkk is gone. From the Ares boards anyway...

I've recently seen him posting topics in Cythera, asking for help in the game...

Replicant is on every now and then...in the Ares Engineering dept.

We have a different group of people on the boards now. There are still a few old guys like me, but mostly new ones.

Well, I'm still here. Or, I'm back to speak the truth. I left, but I came back when I heard that Hera was out and plugs were being made. It kinda renewed interest for me.
As for the others.... who knows?

*sigh* those were the good ol' days. I see the Ares community as having progressed three stages:

1- The old discboards at the AresCentral.com days: I was around then but only rarely
2- The UBB boards and the absorbtion into AmbrosiaSW.com: The good ol' days of Darkk, the Ring Battle, etc.
3- UBB A.H. (After Hera): now the Ares boards are starting to resemble the bloated EV boards with PS (no explanation needed) plugs, misposts, and all-around evil. *tear forms at corner of eye*

Yyyyep.

Well, I wouldn't say things are that bad. We've had a slew of members appearing in the past month and maybe with the 'proper' release of Hera, a few of the oldies will resurface again. Here's to hoping.

I was just looking through my read mail, and I came to an e-mail I got from some guy called Baku with the title "Save Slug", back in May. It went on to say about how Slug had been banned from GR and how I hadn't signed the petition to get him back on yet.
I remember that at the time I'd been off the web-boards for some months, and that these were my thoughts:
1. Who the hell is Slug?
2. Who the hell is Baku?
3. How the hell did he get my e-mail address when I hadn't been around, much less posted, for months?
4. Why should I sign the petition if I didn't even know the reason he was banned?

I remember replying with these questions in my message. Funnily enough, I never heard back from Baku.

The middle two thoughts are still unanswered, but the first... I nearly kick myself now:-) How could I not have known Slug???

Well, Slug was gone for a long time from the webboards, and it's quite possible even the old-timers could have memory lapses and forget about him.

Yes, the board slowly declined, losing members and maturity over time. I suppose its heyday would have been just after the absorption into AmbrosiaSW.com- the time of Aithon and Darkk and arguments about the nature of the boards themselves. I miss those, even if I rarely posted in them.

That said, not all is bad. We've got some new members who are actually good people- Avatara is a notable example. <Someone else> is not.

I can see us surviving quite nicely for a while yet, with those we have here, our brand new plug-ins, and the few new people who join up. We'll be around a while yet...

I predict that a time will come there will be another spammer, like MotherLove or Ambrose. I predict also that swift action will be taken from the experience in the past. Trash Talk will slowly decline into a pit of filth and the Engineering forum will be flooded with obvious questions.

And when Nathan announces the sequel to Ares, hundreds of "suggestions" topics will pop up overnight.

K, now my head hurts,

Say Slug, did you ever get in contact with Baku again?

Admiral Dennis is still on, occasionally, but not on Ares. XWarp roams GR.

I wonder if he ever tried to create that 'FindaGame' thingy he mentioned just before he left. Now that would be interesting.

Appearantly Darkk has moved on to other Ambrosia games. I've noticed him asking for help (on certain parts of the game) in Cythera and Escape Velocity so far.

Maybe he might come back if one of you older people showed him Hera was out or something...

Ok, here I am.
Not like I'm going to be as big a presence as before.
I was kinda bitter about the whole fiasco on my pulg (it may yet live), and I found some other great games (UT, Deus Ex, EV (yet again), Cythera).
Ask me about the plug, and I'll be forced to duel you (Ares, you pick the race). Posted Image

I've seen Aithon lurking around on Gameranger (playing Ares too), but I'm not sure if its the same one...

Welcome back Darkk, well...sort of.

Two words: AP classes. I barely recognise my computer. And now the mods are coming, and I'm going to miss pure Ares. No more talking from the same perspective.

But I might do mine, so complaining will by hypocritical (and I will be able to rule with my plug!! Posted Image ).

I probably have next to no skilz now. It's been SOOO long. I'm not sure it's even INSTALLED on my new computer.

Oh well, I'm done (mostly) with UT, and am returning to my roots.
