I'm having problems getting (other's) plugs to work. I download them into the Ares folder. Then open them. A few Unstuff themselves without incident. Others are unreadable, and many are corrupted, damaged, and have "disk errors."

This seems very strange, because others have obviously been able to download them. These ones were not readable: Aftermath, Blackseas, Footsteps of Phyrus(excuse my terrible spelling), Comp Killer. These were corrupted: fighter Haven, Ishiman Quest. These were Unstuffed: Iron Fist, Audemedon Battles, and the Screwing With Ares plugs. One, Tough Levels, automatically uncompressed itself, and turned up in the Ares folder. Whoever wrote that is a genius.

I'm yakking, are't I? My question is: What's wrong? I've already tried dragging the compressed files over Stuffit Expander.

I'm very close to beating factory Ares, and I need plugins.

Well, try going into Stuffit expander and opening them by selecting them from the menu in the program - sometimes that helps. Also, newer versions of Stuffit can expand more stuff, I think I might have had the same problem. I use Stuffit Expander 5.5 - maybe not the newest (I don't know) but it might be newer than your version and it might fix the problem. I'm not sure where you can procure it. Comp killer - when I downloaded it it arrived as a text file, messed up - it might just be me though.

I'd recommend upgrading your Aladdin products. Stuffit Lite 6.5 offers no problems (having just checked), and is a free download.

Get stuffit at http://www.aladdinsys.com/ , that should fix your problem.

BTW: I'm the author of both toughlevels and aftermath and compressed them the same way, so i dunno how TL managed to get to the ares folder by itself.

Also, if you don't know where to get OS 8.1(saw you couldn't find it in another thread i think) get it here: http://www.info.appl.../usen/macos8.1/

Thanks everyone. I probably need a new Stuffit Expander anyway.

What, exactly, is a "corrupted file"? They seem to be a major problem among plugs.

Patrick: Cool. I'm downloading 8.1 now…I can finally use Hera Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image

A corrupted file is one that has had some of it's data screwed with somehow, causing it to not comform to it's format. However, early versions of Stuffit often report files that were compressed with a later version to be corrupted because it can't read them correctly.

Cool. I'm getting a new Stuffit Expander now. I had to upgrade to 8.1, and that took most of the morning and last night.

This topic will selfdestruct in 3 days, unless I think of another question, or if someone posts again.

Ok, my current Stuffit (whick I found was Posted Image 1.0) won't let me upgrade to the new one. I'll try getting the one for 8.0, and upgrade with "hops."

I'm reviving this topic again because of two things:
•Thank you for all your help and patience Posted Image
•Another problem Posted Image

Thus is with Challenger 101. First of all, the "read me" clipping refused to open(error type -39 :confused Posted Image Then, when I tried to open it by dragging it over Ares, it didn't read, so factory ares came up.

This may be a problem with my computer, but I think I've said that every time……
