Hera, probably the buggiest thing in existence on the planet. Anyway, I recently finished a plug that I put new sprites into, using Hera, and found that the sprite was somehow corrupted. When using this ship you would only a change in the sprite for about every three it was supposed to have, and then it would suddenly jump back into its first position. I don't know why. I reloaded it in Hera; no good. I went into Res-edit and moved copied the SMIV into the plug there and then gave it the right ID. Still no good. What is going on? I put about 20 hours into this plug and it's screwed up. Can anyone help me?

Of course we can.

I'll wager that it's a problem with the rotation resolution- here's how to fix it.

1. Divide 360 by the number of frames in the sprite (If it's a 6x6 box, you'll get 10).
2. Go to "Special" on the object (ship) concerned, and type this number into the "Rotation Resolution" field.
3. Check to see if it's solved.

My friend, you are nothing short of a miracle worker in my eyes! Thank you so much!
I was using a sprite that has a rotation resolution of 6, and had plugged it in for the Ishiman Heavy destroyer sprite that has a resolution of 15. Thank you so much. My beta version of Obain is finshed, and as long as it's ok with **Viper** I can put it on the site. It's not too fancy, just let's you use the Obish ships from Obain Vs. Elejeetian in the single player game.
Oh, and though I posted this elsewhere too, you had me up until one in the morning playing your plug. It was fantastic! The graphics are incredible, I loved the new ships. The storyline was awesome too because though it was a different story, it had a direct link to the original game, and that's cool. Keep me posted as to anything you do in the future and I look forward to "14.1" Posted Image

You posted this topic just in time, Shrout. I'm having the exact same problem, only mine doesn't want to solve itself. Posted Image

Ok, this sprite of the Rebel Cruiser from Escape Velocity is not getting along with Hera. Similar to Shrout's problem, the sprite turns maybe six or seven frames, then goes back to the original. When I first actually import the sprite, Hera places these large red "X"s in about 30 or so of the frames. Can't seem to get it to work, even though my sprite is 36 frames, and a 6 by 6 grid should cut it...

Here's the sprite if any of you care to test it:

Fully sized, the sprite is 384x384 pixels.Unless my calculator is screwed, those numbers can be divided by eight. Posted Image

I actually looked at that same thing. What you need to do is go into the sprite importer and bring the sprite in again. There should be a box that actually specifies the # of frames in the sprite. If you type in 36, those red X's should go away. You may currently have 6 in that box. Hope this fixes it Posted Image

Yeap, I found that out a few hours ago. Now I have another problem...

The green background shows up in the sprite graphics, just along the outer edges. It looks horrible.

I think the problem is that you don't have an Ares native color background. If you have Res edit you can look in inside of Ares and find the CLUT resource. This has the colors you need. The clut may also be inside of the Hera tutorial and you could take a screen shot of it by pressing command-shift-4, or you could use screen snapz (it has truer color shots)

hey, be glad you don't have to deal with Mascot, ferazel's wand's level editor. It is 10 times worse. THE most user unfriendly ap in existance. Of course, it was never really intended for release....

I guess Hera just seems so buggy because its so hard to get it to do what you want it to do.

Capitaine, your EV experience is working against you, I'm afraid. Let me guess- you entered "6" and "6" in the create new sprite box, since it's a 6x6 grid?

Look closely.

"Number of columns". "Total number of cells"...

Get it? Posted Image

Oh, and thanks Shrout1. I do my best.

I take it you rendered the sprite with antialiasing+ a green background? if you did, that's your problem. You need to render with a black background and use Photoshop/Graphic Converter to change the black to green/another Ares color.

When you render with a colored background and antialiasing, the edges of the sprite will be blended in with the green. Ares will only replace the color in the top left corner of the sprite, so the blended green/ship color will remain.

OK I was having this problem and went up to post a topic, but then I saw this one. Great, it helped me so much. Thanks. And by the way if anyone wants me to beta test a plug-in, send it as an attachment to sgtjager@yahoo.com . And SB, I'm assuming your plug is going to be an EV one. If so, great. I hope there are single player levels along with multi...
