Tell me what you think about this timeline...

Man on the Moon

Terran Prelude:

Mankind has always been it’s worst enemy...

2020, January: Following a serious shortage of oil, the Russian Federation air-lifts shock troopers into Saudi-Arabia, seizing the oil fields. The United States of America respond by sending troops to help their Saudi allies to fend off this Russian incursion. This Crisis would eventually escalate to encompass the whole world...

2022, March: World War 3 is nearing it’s climax. The Russian Federation is gaining the upper hand, having added Germany to it’s protectorates. American ‘black’ project started, it’s goal to have Americans colonise the nearest stellar, and so win additional resources. The project is given the name ‘Noah’.

2023, April: ‘Noah’s Ark’ starts it’s long journey, it’s 10,000 strong crew of scientists in cryo-hybernation.

2025, August: The Project building is raided by Russian commandos. All records of ‘Noah’ are destroyed.

2029, December: The ‘Noah’s Ark’ ends it’s long journey through the cold depths of space and lands on the Stellar that the colonists name ‘Landfall’. A small community soon develops. Population is expanded rapidly by using experimental cloning tanks. The community , having lost contact with Earth, assumes independence. The Terran Protectorate is born, a Technologically oriented society for the free exchange of information.

2031, July: During an oil-drilling operation, scientists stumble across a long, abandoned Alien settlement, some 100 below the ground. Archaeological researchers start searching for artifacts.

2031, August: Alien technology is discovered at a new drilling site. A warp coil is salvaged from the remains of an alien ship. Reverse-Engineering of Alien Technology begins.

2032, June: Reverse-Engineering process complete. The scientists integrate a warp coil into the ‘Noah’s Ark’.

2032, July: For the first time for 9 years, Terran Protectorate forces enter the Sol system. Seeing that Earth was still engaged in the War, they establish ‘Luna 1’, a cloaked space station in orbit of Earth. It’s goal is to observe the progress of the war on Earth. The scientists decide not to report to the remnants of government of their discoveries, realising that that would mean interstellar war between the remaining factions...

2032, May: Centauri 1, a space station in the orbit of Landfall, is created. It’s function is to be home to the most skilled engineers, to be the Terran Protectorates main shipyards and outfitting centre. As warp technology becomes cheaper, Terran ships begin to colonise surrounding space, helping prosperity of the Protectorate to rise rapidly. Terran exploration ships start exploring systems further away from Centauri and Sol...

2032, December: ... and find an Alien civilisation in the northern quadrant of the galaxy, calling themselves the Qua’Lari. Trade starts between the two species, and a Treaty is signed, for mutual Military protection.

2034, October: The drawbacks of the experimental cloning tanks used in the first colonisation of Centauri were soon apparent as some of the clones appeared to have been mentally unfit for life. These misfits capture the original cloning vats, hijack a warp capable ship, and found their own Faction, the Terran Dominion. The Dominion, being as advanced as the protectorate, start their own campaign, the goal being the total destruction of the protectorate and the Qua’Lari. With the latest in cloning and shipbuilding Technology, they start building a Warfleet, their base still a secret.

2034, November: Protectorate engineers finish constructing a prototype for a planetary cloaking system, and install it around earth, concealing their Birthplace from watchful eyes.

2036, February: The Dominion’s warfleet is finished, and launches a surprise attack against Northstar in the Polaris system. The Protectorates fleets and colonies in total chaos, the Polaris defence fleet is Routed, and Dominion forces occupy Northstar. The protectorate sends a distress call to the Qua’Lari, only to be told that other ‘more important’ matters are occupying their fleet. A handful of fighters are sent to terran space to assist the protectorate.

--End of Prelude, Start of game--

Anyway, I haven’t been able to upload anything from school, and the telekom messed up my
DSL installation again, so the Graphics thing will have to wait another couple of weeks... Posted Image

'Terran' didn't originate from StarCraft. "Terra is latin for earth, so terran means someone from earth.
Have you ever read Solaris? It was published in the '60s, and it mentions of 'terrans' several times/

A couple things about the war near the beginning:

1. Bah to everybody making the US the "good guys" and somebody else the "bad guys" in all of the stories.

2. Russia isn't in too good shape, and would probably lose a war with the US and the rest of the world fairly quickly.

3. If the war was that long, nukes would be used sometime, and everybody would use them as soon as one was fired, and the planet would be very messed up.

4. 2022 seems a bit soon to get interstellar space flight.

Other than that, it's fine.

Voyager: Everyone attacks everyone, gov'ts die and corporations take over. One's a "bad guy," one's chaotic, and the other big one inadvertently causes the Earth to become uninhabitable. Everyone's the bad guy! :P

If you said "Tellus" I would have to vote for plaguarization. But Terran is a synonym for Human, and it has more to do with the planet (And sounds better than "Earthling")

bah to those who dont play Star Craft. Terran is fine, terran dominion and terran confederacy are not. And im not talking about the names, read the stories avout the terrans in the thing that comes with the game. The beginning eith the colony ship is roughly what happens in Star Craft.

Answer to 1: Who but the U.S. would have the resources to do that? I'm not trying to make them the good guys, I'm just trying not to make people like Bush look like the good guys!

Answer to 3: I think I had something about nuclear weapons being 'disposed' of earlier on...I didn't post the revised version here. I Will revise this!

Pyro: Do you see 'Confederacy' printed anywhere? This is not like starcraft! I should know, it was my favourite game for 2 years... The people launched to the planet in Starcraft were not launched during a war, and the Aliens they find are not exactly friendly! Anyway, there's only so many different 'big empire' sounding names... Heh.
I've come up with some. Blanks mean most anything can go there - species, homeworld, language, culture, favorite music group of founder, etc.
Those in bold are reserved for my projects.
[list=1]
[*]Hiearchists

[*]______ Consolidation
[*]______ Alliance

That's not too hard.

The biggest problem is the fact that both of the factions are "Terran ---------"

Centauri Union
First Confederation
Sirian Dominion
Vega Isolationist Combine

I see what you mean...anyway, this is just one of my Ideas...I haven't even been able to start working on the plug yet... Posted Image

The problem is how to transfer 27 sets of pseudo-3D sprites to an email adress...

May I advise a couple of changes. First of all, scrap the US vs Russia thing, you don't want that in a plugin set very far into the future. I suggest that a comet crashes on Earth and is wiping out the human race. As a last ditch attempt at survival, the people still living build a spaceship to travel to Alpha Centauri (does this sound familiar?), and encounter a nice little planet there.

You could also have it that some wierdo makes a virus that kills of human pretty quickly, and leaves our planet desolate, except for people living on the moon and in space stations. I suggest they decide to leave, and you have 2 factions: The 'moon' people and the 'station' born.

Well, that's just 2 ideas and I'm not trying. Hey, about those sprites, don't bother. I'm not doing that for you or even my aged grandma.
