Harry Potter

Lord of the Rings

Does anyone else feel that people are really dumb when they like LOTR over HP because HP has witchcraft in it..and it's bad...and LOTR is GOOD because it doesn't have anything evil in it? I personally think LOTR would be considered more evil than HP.

I happen to like both. They're both good books, good movies. HP aimed more toward younger audience I suspect. LOTR longer, and harder to comprehend. Do you think the people who like HP and hate LOTR are just angry because they can't understand what's going on? Like...Who's who? Where are we? And..but I thought Gandalf was Grey! Not white!! GRR..makes me so angry!

My point is, I don't think there's anything wrong with Harry Potter, it's not witchcraft, it's just a fantasy, just like Lord of the Rings, and grr..oh well. I don't think either is Satanic. Do you?

It's interesting because, though there is magic and sorcery in LOTR, Tolkien actually wrote the book to parallel many figures within the bible. Tolkien himself was a Christian and you can find many, many similarities. Harry Potter though... I can't back it with anything.

There is absolutely zero "satanic" elements in either. The fact that anyone thinks either series is somehow evil just shows how incredibly ignorant some religious people are.

I have yet to read the third LOTR and the new HP, but, that said, I'm a LOTR person. I'm watching the second movie, um, now.

I like LOTR much better than Harry Potter as I can't believe that a bunch of extremely powerful wizards have so many damn problems. I've never been able to finish a whole HP book, and have sat through one of the films, its just too simplistic.

LOTR is much better than HP, but I realy couldn't decide with the books seeing as the HP books aren't finished yet series wise, but I think that LOTR is better so far. The whole satanic crap is just that, crap.

I like LOTR much more. Harry Potter contradicts itself and is thoughtless almost constantly. I do like HP a little though-sometimes its nice just to let go of anything resembling reality and be totaly stupid. Most of the time, however, I can't stand HP. LOTR, on the other hand, is a really well written trilogy.

I'm satanic. So is HP. I sacrifice someone with it once a day, sometimes more.

But seriously, Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone was a good book, but, like the Redwall series, the entire book is written by form. The Lord of the Rings is a work of literary genius comparing it to Harry Potter is incomprehensibly stupid. The reason that Ms. Rowling's literary work will never rival The Lord of the Rings is because Tolkien invented an entire universe and history for Middle earth (See The Silmarillion), whereas Harry potter has no background. I'm going to have to rate Harry Potter as shallow writing in comparison to The Lord of the Rings.

Also the second movie is complete crap. One good scene, and it isn't even in the book.
